A few years ago you couldn't move in my _ocal sauna on a Sunday afternoon, even through the week it was busy. Now it's struggling to keep open. Is your _ocal sauna the same, and what would tempt you to go again?

Sadly I have no saunas _ocal to me, the nearest one used to be wolf spa in Nottingham. I liked it because it had an older client base, not keen on the one that are like an extension to a gym where the clients are all sculptured, preening perma tanned so and sos. Prefer the, for want of a better term, seexier type. If I had the money I'd set up one, aimed squarely at the "dirty old man" type, far more fun;

Because - as several voices upthread suggest - we miss them when they are not there.

Is a £20 or thereabouts entrance really considered pricey when you consider you’re contributing to running costs and you get a few hours of fun and distraction from it? I find that surprising from some above. You can’t do anything much for just £20 these days. Go, pay, and get your monies’ worth.

I have a newish one near me. Only open Monday afternoons three weeks a month. Extention on a private house. Met a friend of mine a month ago who was going for treatment for a verucca, which he'd picked up in a shower on a campsite.

They'd tried various medications to cauterise it; they'd tried cutting it out; they'd tried microwaving it - he said that was particularly excruciating.

It was so infectious he'd even had his fingertips infected, so spreading it to the penis sounds quite possible.

Very, very nasty. Flip-flops seem highly advisable.

Saunas need to re invent themselves. Steamers Quay in Torquay has now got new owners and are listening to their customers and giving them what they want. They have had to bring in more lockers that tells you something. The atmosphere has changed and people look happy.

I go to Steam Complex in Leeds and Plastic Ivy in Dewsbury. Both not too busy and Steam is massive. It'd be a shame to lose any saunas.

I accept that they have running costs but they are slowly pricing customers away. Prices rise in an effort to pay the bills which results in even more loss of business. Better to reduce prices and have a dynamic pricing policy. Two people at £10 is better than one at £15 and even better than none at all. A customer in a sauna has little overhead impact, so more the merrier.

I go to Number 52 in Newcastle which is busy but has had to put up its prices recently. Once you are a member (it’s free to join) it’s £17 entry but you do get a voucher for a reduced price for £5 off your next visit within a week.

When you consider that as well as the usual play areas you are getting a steam room sauna jacuzzi cinema (porn) showers lube towels condoms I think it’s pretty good value considering the operating costs.

If you didn’t know a licence as a sex establishment is about £5000 a year you also have to pay for that.

They also have doching facilities!

Join me anytime.

Regardless of the venue's facilities, overhead costs and apparent value the fact is, my _ocal sauna at least, is not busy and needs to increase the footfall. They have recently increased their prices again which will inevitably result in less custom not more.

£20 plus travel costs is very expensive when there's only one other guy in the place. No-one is suggesting they run at a loss, the problem is bodies, or lack of them. Yes, support your _ocal one but you can't be expected to continue paying high prices when the place is almost empty. They need to utilise innovative pricing that attracts more custom through the door.

I get it that there are more reasons than just pricing but it is at the top of the list as a barrier to entrance.

I keep harping on about Empire because I know how good it is when there are a few in, if others go and enjoy venues and post about the good time that they have ( hopefully ) had then more will go…just remember that there is never a guarantee and you might have to visit a venue a few times to see it at it’s best.

Over the past year I have been to Pipeworks, Glasgow; Number 52; Steam, Leeds; Gentry, Hull; Plastic Ivy; Boiler Room; E15 and Locker Room in London and Greenhouse, Darlaston

I would say that they are all different in terms of facilities and what makes them on any visit is the crowd in on a particular day. Generally I have come away having had fun even if it wasn’t as wild as I hoped for.

What surprises me is the plethora of negative comments about saunas on some of the forum feeds , if people are undecided and read a load of negative comments they won’t give the sauna a try. The decline then becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. Give them a chance, for me it is a safe environment to meet like minded men and some visits will be better than others

As a newbie to cock I think 20 quid is a bargain as I'd rather walk around with my willy out and watch some porn than pay 3 times that for a shitty theme park.

Clearly there are plenty guys who would like to go to a Sauna but if there's no-one in the place £20 is obviously too expensive.

"A few years ago you couldn't move in my _ocal sauna on a Sunday afternoon, even through the week it was busy. Now it's struggling to keep open. Is your _ocal sauna the same, and what would tempt you to go again?"

Sauna Sauna certainly very busy and very good in general.

Earlier in the day ,it's heaving.

For guys who just want sexual contact with other men without getting intimate. Saunas are ideal.

You are more likely to meet like minded men in a sauna than you are in cyber world of window shoppers.

Northwich is very successful and whether you get sex or not, it’s a very nice place to visit. Take Sliders the floors can be slippy. I particularly like naked days.

Other saunas need to adapt to the changing market. I use to frequent the Blackpool saunas, w3 is nice but quiet. Acqua seems to cater for _ocals. Acqua use to be my preference because it was a cock fest.

I rarely visit saunas now, I don’t feel the need or have the desire anymore. Though every now and again I feel the need to get my hands on a nice uncut hairy cock.

I’d rather go for a walk.

Saunas are dark and dingy, feel like you are ashamed to be there, I hate them, only go when a guy invites me, or special event. Saunas need to re- invent themselves, plus heating and other costs have gone up. I prefer sex outdoors, totally naked. Only way. 😎

We have had COVID and MPOX to contend with.

After isolating and keeping away from people. mixing with guys who are naked in our personal space takes a bit of getting use to.

Naked Tuesday is liberating.

No good in cold weather which is most of the year in UK.

Someone on The Apprentice should enter with a business plan of opening a gay sauna. Lord Sugar would give great advice.

When you’ve got saunas/hotubs/pools to run it’s tough

I have started accompanying first timers to the Sauna, many are very scared to go for the first time but once they have experienced it they love it....

The first time fear is what the Sauna should work on.... Maybe free entry for a regular when they bring a first timer? Reasonable I think as they wouldn't have had a potential customer through the door otherwise, so the cost is not really a factor.....

Anyway, I love them, the sexually charged atmosphere, the sights, the sounds, the smells..... Wonderful...

A lot of councils reluctantly tolerate "saunas". Maybe, instead of virtue signalling by covering everything in rainbow flags for pride month, they should grown up and issue trading licensed for gay sex venues without the requirement for the overhead costs of hot-tubs, saunas and steam rooms.

Never been to a sauna... Surely though, if lack of attendance is effecting turnover and viability then the answer is to have a sliding entrance charge. Say £10 entrance charge if the place is near empty and increase the entry price as it gets busy... that would encourage the rif raff and cheapskates (nice to have a label, eh!) to get in there quick and the well healed can turn up when its busy and pay the £20... everyones a winner!

I had my first ever trip to sauna a little while ago and felt it was fairly busy. Probably 20-25 guys in the at 1400 on a Friday. This was at me1. Lots of facilities so understand high rents.

Would be a shame to lose them.

Never went there, however... the owner claimed it had to close because he could not get insurance cover; a legal requirement?

Hmm, not sure that would work, an early bird incentive may work but only if the price difference was sufficient to encourage one to get there early. My _ocal's incetinve is only a £3 difference so not much incentive. I'm afraid prices may have reached snapping point, and in the face of ever increasing prices elsewhere the treat of visiting a Sauna is one of the first things to be given up. I used to go every week, but now only once a month.

In the saunas ive been too ,and my _ocal they are busiest earlyfrom open 10/11 to 2.30 ,then they go qyiet for ahour and half and pick up again .

So i dont see how a eerlybird offer benifits the saunas .

I think a loyalty offer or 3 days in a week for 2 ,maybe .

Some saunas want photo ID and that puts off the married guys.

Some saunas are card only and again that's puts off a lot of men.

Some are too expensive for what facilities it has there.

I tend to only go now if I've arranged to meet someone and it's primarily to play with them.

I've been to quite a few in UK. I'd say Sauna,Sauna in Northwich is best one I've been to.

Poison Ivy was a decent too but I've only been a couple of times.
