Solar here- so all good.

No way I'm jumping through any governmental hoops again as most did during COVID. I f they did do this- I wonder how it would affect them, or if their supplies would be ' cut off'.

These people need to fear the populace once more- they have forgotten they are supposed to serve the people of the country.

"Who is proposing to switch off the gas and electric for 72 hours?"

There was an article in the tabloids saying that Putin was going to target our gas pipelines to cripple our power infrastructure and that all UK citizens should have a 72hr survival kit to see them through. I didn't read any more than that as it seems like typical scaremongering.

Exactly, some kind of clue about what this refers to would be helpful.

Anything is possible with that cunt Putin and his moronic side kicks but to totally cut off gas/electric supplies would involve the use of weapons, not just covert anchor dragging.

That would invoke Article 5 which in tun would mean the end of Russia and the end of most of humanity. I don't think that slimy turd is that crazy.

Strange that Article 5 wasn't invoked when the Nordstream pipeline was destroyed.

Th Nordstream pipeline was covert and no direct evidence that Russia was involved (although it no doubt was). In any case it didn't cause a shutdown.

Any attack on the country or infrastructure should invoke article 5. Bit of a stretch to think that Russia would spend billions to build a pipeline to provide a major source of export income. Just to blow it up.

it certainly isn’t idiotic

Some people just aren’t aware of what is happening in the world today

Don’t forget on the late 70s early 80s the government ( ie tories ) sold off our utility companies , mainly to foreign investors

CHECK YOUR HISTORY BEFORE CALLING PEOPLE IDIOTS , I BET YOU DARE NOT STAND TOE TO TOE WITH ME AND MAKE THAT STATEMENT YOU UNDEREDUCATED IDIOT

From what I read, we were being advised to stock up on at least 3 days worth of food and drink, more in case of transport disruption than anything else. Not heard any talk of any 72 hour 'shutdowns' other than on this thread.

I'd be more worried about Article 5 being invoked when Greenland is attacked by, um, er, the USA.

Yes, I forgot that we became totally self-sufficient 24 hours after Brexit. Can't imagine any scenario that an EU crisis could impact us in any way.

The outburst only confirmed the allegation of idiocy by another poster. FYI I did an internet search and the only people who reported this was an entertainment channel, GB 'News'. If that's not bad enough, the OP actually misrepresented what they said.

Perhaps his use of the word "proposed" is confusing. Maybe "hypothetical" would have been more appropriate.

A customer rang me a year ago asking for shelves in a store room in his house for storing long life products in case of a similar event, went round and had a chat, then noticed an electric can opener for all the tins he had stored up, i suggested he buy a manual can opener,to open all his cans.

He thought after after a few days the power an gas would just come back on, he had no idea about black starts etc.
