Guy starts a conversation, you answer immediately, 5 to 10 minutes later he responds, you respond immediately, 5 to 10 minutes later he responds…. what is that all about?

I believe in giving the benefit of the doubt, it maybe that the guy the other end is jumping between work or driving or that the Mrs is in the next room, we all have our lives to navigate, I’m sure we are all acutely aware of how addictive this site can become, so if it takes the other end a few hours or days to reply, it’s really not the end of the world…

I understand that but when they start the conversation asking to meet up at least try and be available! Especially when you tell them you have a limited time slot.

"Guy starts a conversation, you answer immediately, 5 to 10 minutes later he responds, you respond immediately, 5 to 10 minutes later he responds…. what is that all about? "

They're busy doing something else and can't check their phone every second. When i'm online i'm usually at work, do you really expect anyone to prioritise a chat over that? 5-10 minutes is nothing.

I get that and it is annoying. But the fact that they messaged you first means they are interested in you.

It's time wasters who spoilt it

For others in the sense that he more than likely messaged a few guys in the hope that one messages you back but sometimes like buses you get no hits one day and another time all 4 reply.

In addition he may have had an unexpected visitor.

Another one is if you're swapping between sites.

A whole raft of reasons for slow replies.

Be patient and reward will arrive.

I get that, the guy eventually admitted that he was at work - eventually - after initially starting the conversation asking to meet up. In other words, just a complete time waster. Happens far too often.

You're assuming he's a timewaster.

So you've established he's at work. Perhaps it was quiet so he comes on here, sees you and messages you.

Then he has emails to answer which takes priority over messaging you back.

I think you need to chill and become more patient.

For someone who does demand attention, you seem to brought it on yourself by posting it on here. We're you sitting with a stop watch watching a reply to pop up on the screen. Having an online tantrum about it doesn't seem to be the answer. Calm down dear!

if you are tab browsing multiple pages you don't always see new message alerts, also if you are responding to a few messages it happens. If you want instant replies I suggest direct messages on here aren't going to meet your needs. Also are you just sending one liners? Good messages can take a little longer

It think my problem is that a guy contacted me to arrange a meet, after telling him I only had a three hour time slot, then finally messaged me admitting he was in work and couldn’t make it after all. So a completely pointless conversation?

I think we have to all admit that there are people on this site who like to have a chat, I don’t have a problem with that, take as long as you want, but when someone is starting the conversation with a meet up in mind, after I’d explained time constraints, then proceeds to take an age to reply, then admits he’s in work, then admits he can’t get away from work… that!

When writing a message you have to get to the point. Were not standing in a bar talking to each other

If you expect anyone who contacts you to be available to exchange messages without interruption, perhaps you should make that clear in your profile. A lot of people on here accept that people will reply when it is convenient. He didn't know that you had a limited time frame when he contacted you or that you expected him to remain available to respond for as long as you thought satisfactory. The name time waster gets bandied about far too much and quite often it is because the person calling them time waster had unreasonable expectations or were impatient.

So the guy asked about meeting up, you gave him the option of (the next) three hours, and he replied to say he couldn't make that time window because he was at work... and that is therefore a pointless conversation?

Unless one is a mindreader, it is not clear how one is supposed to know another person's availability prior to starting a conversation...?!
