Had my first one late last year.

Walked into the surgery to find doctor plus two medical students.

Doctor explained process and asked if I was OK with students being present and one of them doing a prostate check after he had.

He had obviously done it before, found my prostate quickly, checked, withdrew and said all OK.

The student stepped forward and I guess if not his first time he wasn't that experienced. He took a lot longer than the doctor but eventually finished.

I didn't get an erection and nothing untoward happened.

It's better to know earlier then later if there's a problem as prostate cancer is very treatable in the early stages before it's left to spread.so good for it..as for a PSA test and digital finger test. I had it all done recently as it's a relief to know all's ok.

Anyone who can dwell on a prostrate exam as a potential thrill clearly doesn't have enough going on in their life.

If you do have to have it removed, they use something like a spoon to scrape it out, and you will never come or maybe even ever get a hard on again.

I got mine checked a few years ago. Within in weeks it was confirmed i had prostete cancer. Fortunetly due to the exam it was caught very early and now cured.

I’ve had my prostate checked many times and it is a very nonsexual experience. It’s mostly just uncomfortable trying to balance on the tiny examining bed. I will say this though. My urologist is a rugby player with very fat fingers and no manners. I always come out of his office with my eyes bulging.

This is what happened to me today at the Doctors.

I admit I had some trepidation about my visit. Fortunately it was a male doctor which makes it easier for me to discuss!

After I told him my problem. He suggested that it may have occurred before the surgery I had 2 years ago. And quoted " Use it or lose it". Food for thought on that! He's agreed to do a Testosterone and a PSA blood test tomorrow(15th April). Prescribed 50mg Viagra.(which is free for over 60s.who new?) And advised me to basically have as much sex as possible! And he said we'll see what the blood tests reveal?

Not at all, DNA saliva test looks for genetic variants linked to prostate cancer, the PSA test is a blood test that measures the amount of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in your blood, but is notoriously inaccurate in predicting cancer. A digital examination is to check if the prostate is enlarged and/or smooth, a 'knobbly' prostate is another indicator. All 3 have uses and limitations

I had a prostate exam (DRE) after a urinary infection and increased PSA level. It lead to an MRI which showed prostate cancer. I’m now getting radiotherapy soon and glad I got the exam to check me out.

If you have a family history of prostate cancer or any other concerns ask for a PSA test and/or a DRE. It could save your life.

Had four prostate examination in recent years. Nothing to it really. Fairly quick and uncomfortable rather than painful. Nothing remotely sexual about it. Doctor obviously wears surgical gloves and uses lube. Last time he used an awful lot of lube plus sprayed some kind of numbing spray so was hardly aware of it.

My first prostate exam was carried out by a lady doctor, a rather rotund, middle-aged 'jolly hockey sticks' type. Since then always male doctors.
