This isn’t about qualifications, just a basic standard of written English.

So long as I can understand their intent, I don't care how perfect their spelling is.

English may be their 2nd or 3rd language, and they are making an effort to communicate in my 1st and only language.

It’s not mockery. It’s exasperation that folk can spend a minimum of eleven years in compulsory education and be as functionally illiterate at the finish as they were at the start.

The quality of the message/post is more important than grammar and spelling. Someone may have an exquisite grasp of the English language and practice perfect grammar but have absolutely nothing of interest to say.

From my point of view,it's the predictive text that causes the problem ,

I have a friend whose eyesight is not too good , she is aware where the buttons are on her phone but sometimes the words come out wrong , so I have to guess what she was trying to say .

Is it worth getting upset about ?

It maybe to some , in which case I would say you are very lucky that this is top

It never ceases to amaze me how many people use "what" in place of "want" or "why" instead of "while". And it's not like you can say it's because of modern educational standards or the influence of texting, because quite a few here are older than me and have terrible spelling!

If that's the case that's fine but I have found that those whose first language is not English tend to spell better than some of the indigenous population.

I even know teachers who can't spell. A lot of it is laziness too. I explained to a friend that could've is could have and not could of and he still writes could of.

Prose is much easier on the brain; and after a while you have to do it for poetry as the rubric is more complex and word pattern variable.

Had a really good meet with a guy who seemed to be guessing how to spell. Short words, not a lot of communication, he was Polish when I met him, that explained it all.

Don't be too put off xx

There is a difference between spelling/grammar errors and typing errors. I do plenty of the latter and the less said the better about anyone who finds that seriously upsetting,

"Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn’t mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. We used to do this at school.

Prose is much easier on the brain; and after a while you have to do it for poetry as the rubric is more complex and word pattern variable.

It’s a cruel twist of fate that dyslexia is such a hard word to spell.

As long as I can understand what is being said I don’t give a toss. Although I do object to ass instead of arse as 1 an ass is an equine and 2 we’re not yanks

As a fully qualified, and experienced teacher, in all the core subjects. I do agree that there has been a general slip in standards of literacy. However, our language is constantly evolving. So it's inevitable, that there are apparent differences, in how we communicate. I'm quite comfortable trying to decode messages, from different peoples, of different backgrounds. Unfortunately this can sometimes mean, that guessing what word has been written, could lead to mistakes in understanding. So I do think it's important that we try to have a recognisable written language. In other words. If I write that I feel someone is behaving,or acting like a cunt. I don't want them to get the wrong message, and think that I said they are a cant, when really they're a cunt. I know some might think this is all rather fishy. But there are a lot of cants, on this site, who are also be wankas!

Lol, off the rails: the first 'sentence' isn't a sentence and the rest is punctuated with dodgy punctuation, not to mention grammar! 🤣

Oh, groan (or should that be crone?), is that the best you can come up with? An obvious misnomer and a ‘misspelled' town name (ironic, with original post in mind)?
