They clarified the meaning of woman in the context of the sex-based protections of the Equality Act. TG peeps are covered by the gender-based protections of the Equality Act. Some had been arguing the sex-based protections also applied to them. The judges said no. The Equalities and Human Rights Commission says it will issue updated guidance in the summer to service providers. There is no law governing the specific use of toilets. The only test is one of reasonableness. My guess is they will continue to leave it to the discretion of service providers. Where toilets are segregated, service providers will need to consider whether the designation is sex-based or gender-based. The outcome may be something as simple as signage, e.g. these toilets are for use by the female gender | |||

It has nothing to do with toilet cleaning or medical staff. It is totally appropriate for a male doctor to treat a woman and vice versa. | |||
