This is a busy time for me at work and I can't get a week off to go with her.

Yes, think it’s healthy for a relationship. In the past, when I’ve had a GF, I’ve been away for a weeks golf with The Guys, a (good) few beers, late nights, general bloke conversations, gets it out the system. Have always encouraged GF to do the same with differing results.

We usually do a couple of holidays a year as a couple. Apart from that we do several shorter trips each year. Sometimes. I'm on my own sometimes with friends. Sometimes the wife goes with friends occasionally on her own.

We are comfortable in our relationship. We’re married 45 years this year and lived together for a couple of years before that.

If it works for you go for it. If you’re unsure talk to your partner and explain your reservations

To be honest my wife sticks to me like a limpet and I find it very frustrating but she's always been that way. I used to visit a local friend once a week but every time I came back home she'd want to cause an argument. It's in her nature to be controlling and that's why I'd be so happy to see her go away with her friends or sisters for a few days but she very rarely does.

I often wonder if there are other married guys on here in the same unfortunate situation and it's been so bad sometimes I tell her I'd be happier to be living on my own.

Her response is that if I ever left her she'd make sure I'd never see my kids and grandkids again. Unfortunately her control makes it so difficult for me to meet other guys socially or for fun. It feels like I'm a prisoner in my own home.
