No action in the dunes when I was last there, apparently there had been a crackdown by local police including the use of drones, although I haven’t witnessed this myself

I've seen the drone and saw a pair of very embarrassed German guys get fined last year. Later afternoon onwards seems to be best if you fancy a bit of fun and you'd do well to be discreet if you're up for it.
