Day after day of misery and "what ifs " was sucking every bit of enjoyment out of life. I'll now listen to an odd radio news report if it's on in the car, but otherwise can't remember the last time I watched the news on TV | |||

Plenty hawks in Washington wanted to take the war to the USSR. They reckoned they could produce enough nuclear bombs to win that conflict within about 18 months. This was the reason some of the conscientious scientists on the Manhattan Project decided to share their secrets with the Russians, and so accelerate the development of the Russian bomb and a state of equilibrium between the two. | |||
