Things may get worse before they get better but all this will change eventually. Wars will end, Putin, Trump and company will die. The political trend to the right will reverse. And our own lives may get gayer and brighter!

Life is as beautiful as you think or feel within regardless of the external changes. When you are strong within, you are in control and the world is your paradise.

Yes, it would be good to see the external world change for the better but if we let ourself imprisoned by the external world, both our internal and external world will collapse.

Good news is if we are strong within, it will at least help us through the darkest night. You are lovely!

Why is it that you would think at the exact same time you are alive it would coincide with the world turning to shit - as you put it?

Human society has been around for thousands of years - it wasn't waiting for you to go wrong so you could comment on it on a backstreet social media site.

I imagine someone reminded Churchill of the stupidity of his declaration of war on Russia in 1919 when he was War Minister.

It caused mutiny in the ranks and was the last time the police went on strike in the UK.

24 hour news needs lots of fear, shock and tragedy to drive engagement. Worst case scenario is reported as the most likely. Ill-informed armchair experts on social media ramp up the negativity.

Switch off your TV. don't engage with news sites or social media. Go outside meet with real friends.

I really think you have a very valid point. In fields I know something about, the rush to fill empty airtime and sensationalize is obvious and makes me fume. So by extension, what I read about things I am not expert in are highly likely to be subject to the same hyping up.

Exactly this. The news during the COVID episode was when I realised this was the way forward. Day after day of misery and "what ifs " was sucking every bit of enjoyment out of life. I'll now listen to an odd radio news report if it's on in the car, but otherwise can't remember the last time I watched the news on TV

I'v seen that too; obvious that some "journalists" don't understand the topic on which they report.

It has always been so, the constant churn of the news, the avarice of the newspaper world and the ongoing social media time and it's polarization of thought have all compounded the ills of this world and make it very common for bad news. If you have self control, self respect and believe in your own place in life you can still have a happy life, that and of course lots of nookie.

Maybe he was infected by the jingoism in the USA when they realised the nuclear bomb detonated on Japan gave them a huge military advantage.

Plenty hawks in Washington wanted to take the war to the USSR.

They reckoned they could produce enough nuclear bombs to win that conflict within about 18 months.

This was the reason some of the conscientious scientists on the Manhattan Project decided to share their secrets with the Russians, and so accelerate the development of the Russian bomb and a state of equilibrium between the two.

No, I think it’s just more of the same. You can pick any point in history and find good and bad. The only thing that bothers me currently is the rise of the hard right and rowing back on all the hard earned rights and protection plus all the disinformation that is so much easier to spread in the “Information Age”

That there London, mostly; currently In Co Roscommon though!

Usually the question “is it me?” is best answered with “yes!” In this case, it is likely that the answer is “No, there’s has gone to cock, and not in a good way!”

"the rise of the far right" is also a fear-mongering.

Very succinct… the number of times I can confidently say ‘that’s not true’ about events or reported news involving something I know about from an inside perspective is quite unreal…

It can often feel that way. Mostly it’s down to media.

If you look at history. You’ll actually find things are better (apparently) 😂🤣

I have had the same experience. I’ve actually asked a reporter about some of the crap they wrote and they openly admit to filing in the gaps if they don’t know the facts
