Why do monkeys and gorillas etc peel bananas at the opposite end of the stalk?

I tried it but it is strange. Lol

But that's the correct way apparently. Heard this a few years back and have opened a banana that way ever since. They usually peel much easier that way.

That's the correct way to peel them. Because it's the way they grow. It's only us that eat them the wrong way round.

Apparently the correct etiquette for peeling and eating a banana is to peel from the bottom upwards (starting from the end opposite the stem to avoid squashing the fruit), take small bites and chew slowly, avoid loud peeling or chomping sounds, keep your mouth closed while chewing, and dispose of the skin properly, cos as we all know, banana skins make good slippers! 🍌🍌🍌🍌🍌🍌

I prefer to eat them from a man's bottom...

Luv a Banana.

Doesn't matter how you peel and eat it😊

Used to enjoy a Banana Long Boat with ice cream and tinned fruit cocktail.

I recall my mother mashing one up with milk and sugar when I was poorly as a kid

Very high in Potassium

(vitamin K)

Banana skins are good for the garden. put them near the base of your plants and when they rot down they put good nutrients back in to the soil, same as most fruit or veg peelings to be fair.

It's a good look if you are in someones company and they either show you hw much banana they can suck without gagging or they ask you to demonstrate.

I agree entirely, although unfortunately, this platform sometimes showcases ill manners and limited comprehension, which it seems is a downfall that sadly as site members we just have to endure.

No, only fruit bats eat fruit upside down… and they’re bats!

(Apologies if my humour offends)

In my teens we would put the skins under a grill to dry them out. Then scrape the dried pith off and put in a smoke. It worked too😐

Perhaps I am a total Philistine but I tend to split the skin along the back a peel them that way.

Whilst we are on the subject I tend to only buy bananas in cool weather as they go off so quickly when it is warm and don't taste so nice. Tried keeping them in the fridge but that was a disaster.

When I was in Gambia a lady would cut a plateful of fresh mixed fruits on the beach, and sell them.

The bananas were amazing, so sweet.

Nothing like the bananas we get in our supermarkets which are generally poor quality I find.

If you peel them from the tip rather than the stalk end, all the stringy bits peel away with the skin.

So much fruit in this country is picked unripe in the country where it’s grown before exported to the UK. It will never ripen properly, it just goes soft before it rots. If you’ve ever eaten a ripe mango straight from the tree, or a freshly picked ripe banana you will know exactly what I mean. It’s no wonder kids don’t like to eat fruit - it’s not fit for purpose.

If you freeze them, you can make a disappointing ice-cream substitute. We're the only primates that have mastered those skills.

When I were a lad, bananas were yellow. They ripened on the boats coming over from the Caribbean. Seems the crew kept an eye on the cargo, and if necessary, delayed docking until the bananas had just a hint of green near the stalk, or even sped up to ensure that.

I recall that Barry Docks in South Wales received the bulk of the imported fruit, they were rapidly entrained to destinations all round Britain, arriving in the shops 100% yellow - perfect and ready to eat.

These days you're very lucky to find bananas with much more than a hint of yellow showing through the green.
