welshpool town ctr

Out of curiosity, over the weekend while browsing around Telford town center with my son I popped to EE to enquire about an upgrade , thinking perhaps to test the waters at a couple of mobile phone shops while there to gauge what my handset might be worth against EE’s quote .

I approached the icrack shop in the Telford town center retail park as my son was looking at the sound docks on display , so being curious I asked the guy there if he had any idea why mine may be worth to sell.

Now I’m a fussy OCD obsessed kind of person that doesn’t abuse my phone , never dropped , never near water , always in a case except when dusting it occasionally . The handset is as good as new as it was when purchased .

Having viewed a device in the window of their store I noticed that exactly the same handset there but with half of the storage that mine has , 128gb priced at nearly £500 !

Mine having near mint condition and at 256gb I was curious to see what the offer might be, obviously I knew there was a markup to be made I’m not that stupid…

So anyway , this ( and I’m being as polite as I can here ) a-hole proceeds to examine my handset , yes there’s not a single mark on it at all , proceeds to check system settings even though didn’t ask for my permission to do so , then checks battery level , something having been an iPhone user since the 2g I am familiar with battery degradation.

This smug POS then tries to bamboozle me in front of my son by saying the battery is dead and that it’ll need replacing , 85% battery !!!! smartly I responded by saying that’s not true , so don’t tell me something that’s clearly a lie , swiftly he moves onto the camera and takes a white receipt then photographs it , shows me the taken photo and then says ‘ your camera is broken , it is showing a white circle on the photograph .

As I am a big photograph taker , and do lots of photos and develop them into large prints this came as a bit of a shock, not once have I ever had issue with picture quality or any flaws in the camera image sensor etc,

There was no dust or debris on the lens’s, something I always clean before taking photos of any kind .

I tried several times to tell me that the camera would need replacing at considerable expense ..

Infuriated by his bullshit , I asked what his offer might be …. Insulting mr further he said £160 . For a larger storage handset he had on offer his lies drove me crazy, furthermore he waved a colleague to his side to support his ‘story ‘ thinking they could scam me further by thinking I’m some kind of mug and then his ‘mate ‘ said we’ll give you £180 for it if you buy another phone from us . Disgusted and concerned I declined his offer leaving saying that I think I’ll go elsewhere . Even my young son was shocked as he knows how obsessive I am about my device being in the best condition .

I could see he was keen on the device but there was no way he was going to scam me for a baseless claim .

There are no faults with my handset , but not upgraded for over 3 years I thought I’d test the waters a little.

After returning to the Ee store they found no fault with the handset and their offer was massively greater than what these two POS’s where trying to scam me for , and I felt angered by the fact that this is a tactic they most likely have used so many times on unsuspecting customers of lesser technological knowledge of these phones .

How many others have they lied to and clearly ripped off .

I am savvy , I know what things are worth if they’re in good or bad condition. , but these scum tried their luck and failed .

After doing some routine checks online , it turns out this is a well known scam by these shady pieces of shit and it happens always in these so called pop up dodgy owned shady shit hole phone shops who never seem to have lots of customers but can afford high rents etc etc .

I promptly reported their failed attempts to scam me to Trading Standards.

So for anyone else here , please not before going to these dodgy places to do your own research or go to a reputable company such as a well known branded phone shop and get your handset fairly checked and valued .

please avoid these scum , fortunately I am savvy , but this happened to be a passing browse and a quick enquiry turned out to be a scam in the making, so despite their presence ina high profile retail area they’re still scum lying pieces of shit and will scam everyone who isn’t that clued up .

Be wary everyone of these shops

Btw , my alternative quotes from Ee as a trade in were significantly higher which then highlights how these scanty phone shops rip people off .

So , avoid icrack mobile phone shops or others claiming they’re doing you a favour , get your device checked properly . Avoid these scum

Glad to help , I’m putting out there my experience as a warning to as many as possible, lots of these mobile phone shops operate with low to zero ethics or morals , and their recent increase in popularity in the high street begs questions as to how they operate .

They are akin to the plague of so called American sweet shops blighting out high streets , and often associated with money laundering , illegals immigration and false accounting etc .

We already have in our town long established reputable mobile phone shops and a repair shop that has been here for years , now suddenly two more dodgy ones have turned up and there seems to be few customers , begging the question how they can afford to now rate when the population hasn’t increased to support their costs , it’s all very dodgy and nefarious , and the more savvy and alert and up to date people are about what’s happening to our beloved high streets can we help to stamp out this scum scammer tactics .

Stick to reputation , the costs will save you more in the long run. Do not buy cheap chargers from these people, unless you fancy turning your mobile phone into a nice BBQ for the summer.

Report everything to trading standards and protect yourself against scam after scam before it’s too late .

I think £160 was a decent offer for a 3 year old handset. They have a margin to work off as well.

"I think £160 was a decent offer for a 3 year old handset. They have a margin to work off as well."

Not when theyre reselling them for triple or more and lying to customers about non existent faults !

There’s good business practises and there’s scammers , most of which these ‘ unsavoury characters ‘ are by nature !!!

Customer gets ripped off by tech company! Whoaa... that's new, NOT!

The resale value of used tech gear is notoriously bad, its the nature of the beast; where many users upgrade as soon as a newer model hits the street and willingly accept the financial hit! For those stubborn customers that don't upgrade at every model change 'fruit' sellers are quite happy to cripple their devices during so called upgrades! Even M$ are under a 'rights issue' investigation for trying to bring in an OS and hardware system, that unless yur PC\device is using the latest OS and hardware then the OS would not boot! Who can guess why... $$$$ ? Talk about a licence to print money!

If you own an iphone, the chances are you've already been ripped off when you bought it. I really can't get my head around how someone can spend 1k+ on a bloody phone.

I cant justify spending £1k+ on iPhones so I tend to buy samsungs and only go to the trusted websites/stores. I never use third party stores for this reason alone! They're literally not trustworthy!

I used to get to the end of the contract, the company would phone & discuss "upgrades" and I'd often change. Shiny new phone, new contract.

Then I thought about it...

Often what I was being offered was a like for like at best. Certainly newer, but was it worth the upgrade. I then crunched some numbers, realised what I'd been paying the companies and looked at the phone specs. Most importantly, was it still doing what I want it to do.

From that point, went onto a SIM only deal and never looked back. I don't need the latest phones. When the phone dies, I'll see what's about, but will continue SIM free

Chester.....

Just buy yourself a new handset and sell the old one on eBay. That's the best way to "upgrade"
