Coping with stress

Work had been an absolute nightmare these past 6-8 months or more - late nights, weekends and a constant stress point in life, which is having an effect on my family life as well and not to mention, has a serious detrimental effect on my horn levels.

Thankfully though I've handed my notice in, but still feel very stressed by it all.

How do you fellas cope with stresses in life? I know I should exercise more but the stress has taken away much of that motivation too - bit of a catch 22 really. Be good to hear your coping mechanisms.

Is there a family member you can talk to, even just to unload on, vent your frustrations or get a second opinion on issues? I live on my own and my main stress issues are that I have no one to confide in or ask for an alternative view or opinion. So I keep it in my head and endlessly keep thinking about problems without another voice providing a counter argument or suggestion or support, or reassurance

Yeah, my other half is a great listener and very understanding, which is lucky. I just have to offer reassurance that the grumpiness is down to me and nothing to do with anything they have or havent done.

You are removing the source of your stress, but it’s not gone yet. I did something similar a few years ago, it took quite a while for me to get back on an even keel.

Sleep and exercise essential.

My ideal is a bf who creates a safe bubble for me. But that seems rare and crawling into fantasies on line is also a risk.

I'm told mindfulness is useful but I can't still myself enough to do that. I think phones don't help. I need a phone free time , a bit childish perhaps but if I want to be in control I need to cut distraction stimulation, and focus on short specific tasks.

Much much easier to say than to do!

Swimming lengths, high tempo exercise, both act as an enforced reset. But only work if attendance is like brushing my teeth. Has to be an instinctive part of routine or they just get blasted of agenda by anxiety.

This isn't a direct answer to your question, but an interesting notion.

I watched a YT video recently all about key health factors as we age beyond 50.

There are positive stress factors it turns out. We need more positive stress and less negative.

Positive stress can be bolstered by a sauna session or running your daily shower in cold water for the last half minute.

It doesn't replace exercise etc but it might be an useful addition?

I have lots of sex with lots of men to relieve my stress and it works. I always feel a sense of relief and very relaxed afterwards.

I find as I get older, i stress less…although major life events aside I have not been a major stress head anyway. I ignore most that try to introduce stress…workplace gossip, nope, someone else’s issues, help if I can move on if I can’t, I do have a stress free job that I could walk away from if I choose or if stress changes. Apologies if that’s no help, but often today’s stress is yesterday’s what was that. You can choose how you react , if it’s externally applied then even more so.

I definitely think have a hobby or hobbies help with stress

Having something that takes your mind off work/life can really help

I think everyone needs that separation otherwise it’s just demoralising when you’re in work work work mode all the time

it does very much feell like it's work, work, work all the time. No proper work/life balance at the moment, so I'm hoping the new place will address that.

Meditation and mindfulness are the only true way to get to the source of the problem. It can be challenging at first to still the chatter from the monkey mind, but it gets easier with practice.

There will always be stress in life, removing one appearance of it just dodges the immediate problem, the roots of the stress are within yourself. Dig up those roots and it can never grow back.

Watching live football , I was at the end of my tether at work once and the counselling service worked out I got end of season blues ! Coped with anything during the season with 90 minutes " release " weekly !

Study at Nottingham University about it called " I must be mad to watch this lot " not a joke but it's on Mansfield Town as they were the ones that replied to the researcher . Rx
