" Whilst changing a name is petty, the original naming of this vessel is a bit unusual… since the US Code of 1862 states… “The vessels of the Navy shall be named by the Secretary of the Navy under direction of the President according to the following rule: Vessels of the first class shall be named after the States of the Union, those of the second class after the rivers, those of the third class after the principal cities and towns and those of the fourth class as the President may direct.” The latter (President discretion) has typically been to use names of past Presidents, Admirals, Defence chiefs, etc. Also included are names of individuals in the forces awarded the highest medals for bravery etc (e.g. USS Doris Miller (CVN-81), named for the first black American to be awarded the Navy Cross, for his actions during the Attack on Pearl Harbor). Dumbold tRump, the 49.9% president, doesn’t represent the popular will! He did not win a majority of the vote. Barack Obama did in both 2008 and 2016. Joe Biden did in 2020.
