Yes that's £1.12 shillings in real money. Rip off. Used to be 3d and 4d

Even a bag of tattie crisps is 7 bob now !!

Ashby de la Zouch

Their delivery round my way is atrocious! Where I love we are classed as rural and are a small number of houses and they purposely hold back mail so they can deliver to more than one house.

Or they loose mail.

Best thing that can happen is to open letter delivery other companies. I'd rather pay a touch for even for reliability.

It won't improve now they've sold the post office to a Czech tycoon. He will asset strip what remains run the service down further and increase the price again. But I bet the postmasters will still await their compensation long overdue.

I believe you will find that the post office and Royal Mail are separate companies .

And it is the Royal Mail that has been bought by the cheq guy .

I think you find it would be £1.14s in proper money.

7 bob (35p) for a bag a crisps, I could be interested in moving up to your area. Where I live you can't get a bag for under a £1. Unless of course you by a full box from a supermarket

Think they have to keep the name for a certain amount of time . Probably till the new boss has flogged all the assets and milked the pension fund .

Like most once great British things .

No other company who want to deliver letters 6 days a week as it is not profitable. Compared to most things these days £1.70 to send a letter from one end of the country to the other is reasonable.

My mistake, you're correct, £1.14s.

In proper money.

High Wycombe

Back in the 1980s I started using online banking with Bank of Scotland on dial-up Prestel (teletext format).

If I ordered some pre-paid envelopes to pay in cheques, or a new paying-in book or cheque book, by 6pm on a weekday, it would arrive by first post the next morning. 400 miles in 16 hours.

The good 'ol days of yore.

I just received a second-class letter which took 7 days to arrive from Aylesbury - 20 miles away.

Soon it'll be cheaper to send a local letter by taxi.
