If you're objecting to the sale ... well, willing buyer meets willing seller, caveat emptor and all that.

If you're objecting to the fact that someone can afford to pay that much, yes it is obscene. On the other hand, in the art and souvenir market the oddest things do command ridiculous prices, so it just may be that it turns out to be a good investment. Can't say i believe it myself, but these are areas in which credulous fools and their often ill-gotten money are easily parted.

Look on the bright side. It's probably better that the money goes on a piece of old tat, than on throwing up some overpriced jerry-built block of flats on some green field site.

More interested in the likes of a 20 million purchase made by shipping magnet in Trumps bitcoin "collectables", made with publicly traded companie's funds, and justified to SEC as it would (I paraphrase) "ensure ease of trade and favourable terms in future negotiations"

If I owned that handbag, I would be happy to sell it to the idiot who bought it. God bless that trophy wife.

One of those situations where hand bag gets a seat in restaurant before you do?!?

Still for that cash, you have to wonder what other deals are in play.

Well when you look further at the full picture, the sale of the Jane Birkin Hermes bag involves far more than would initially appear.

It was sold at auction for charity, and the buyer, Valuence Japan Inc., acquired it to preserve global cultural heritage, not for resale.

Its historical significance and craftsmanship make it a unique piece, and the sale supported a worthy cause. There's more to the story than just a hefty price tag on a second-hand bag.

Yes, the same as one might say about a Picasso or a Faberge egg.

None of anyone else’s business how a person with £7m spends their money. It’s not yours, it’s not a state asset, it’s theirs - given the state of tax in this country it probably started out as £15m so it’s already paid its dues.

If it's none of anyone else's business then why spread it all out in the media?

The thread is just a comment about the ludicrous amount paid for a handbag, famous or not

"Some painting sell for shit loads "

…and not necessarily to do with the quality of the paintwork. It’s more a name that sells.

Essentially, it really IS none of anyone else's business, but of course the media love to make a huge sensation out of it because it's the very nature of their gossip mongering business.

To put another perspective on it, as mentioned previously, the buyer, is Valuence Japan Inc., a subsidiary of Valuence Holdings Inc., a global company specialising in luxury goods, property ownership, and asset management.

They have a significant presence both in Japan and globally, operating stores, online platforms, and repair services for luxury brand items, including watches, jewellery, and designer goods.

While £7m would be a substantial sum for an individual, it's likely to be a relatively modest investment for a global company with the market profile of Valuence, given its size and considerable resources and overall worth as an international company.

Well, if I had seven million spare, I would buy myself a nice leather mans bag and secretly treat or help people in genuine need.

I would find that much more pleasurable as I love doing things for people. Don't need praise but just to give someone a smile.
