Good shout, Andy Fraser was only 17 when he played on Free's first album.

Bernard Edwards was a good shout earlier, and Paul McCartney is a top class bassist.

Mike Mills (REM) is massively underrated. Great harmony singer too. They'd have been a bit shit with just an ordinary bassist.

Andy Rourke (Smiths) also.

On the subject of Sid Vicious, Glen Matlock always was a very decent bass player who, in recent years, also played with Blondie.

He's now busy with The Pistols again, doing a lot of touring. They're much better with Frank Carter at the helm instead of Johnny.

Great call on Danny. Love his aggression on the big violin bass, he combines percussive and harmonic beautifully. Light Flight (Pentangle) still has one of the best bass-led intros to any song ever.

It depends on what sound you are after, playing with a pick suits punk and some rock, some bassists do both, John Deacon comes to mind, as for JJ, pretty sure given he was a trained classical guitarist, that he could've played using his fingers.
