I really don't like those profiles where the location is "near you' or town if you really want to meet be honest with where you are.

If you visit an area change your location to match. Fab gives area updates so a status saying you are looking for meets in Blackpool is pretty useless if posted on your normal area like south in my case.

Does it really matter, my profile says 'town' however it also automatically says 'east midlands' just as the op's says 'south east'. Surely knowing which region someone is in is local enough for anyone, and in most cases the distance between you is shown on the profile.

It says East Midlands for people who are in Norfolk too

"Norfolk is actually in the east Midlands. "

Well it used to be in Anglia when I went to school. 🤣

I would have said it was East Anglia. The East Midlands consist of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Rutland, Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire.

It depends how many regions you're working with, on a basic region map it falls into the East Midlands, in a more detailed map it would fall into East Anglia.

Yes it does. What area does FG define as East Midlands (we don’t know) and 120+ miles distance driving - well if it was mostly motorway that might be doable for some people but if most of it was country roads then not. Also to many people evasive or inaccurate profile info (e.g. No tattoos when you have pictures showing you have them) can make some people question how genuine you are (especially when so many people complain about time wasters).

Oh forgot to mention you only see distances if you are a paid member so if two people are showing as say East Midlands, one could be at the eastern edge of the area and the other at the western edge with no idea of how far apart they are.

Well being in the “south east” if I wasn’t a paid member, and just saw “Town” I would have no idea how far away you were - you could be in Farnham 2 or 3 miles or Dover around 120 miles.

So if I saw Farnham and liked your profile I might contact you, but if I saw Dover I’d pass by and not waste either of our time. When I see “Town” or “Nearby” or other similar I automatically assume that you have something to hide and/or will be a time waster - after all if you are here to meet people you need to be honest with them and make it easy to attract those local to you.

Locations like "near" are a good sign of a timewaster in my experience, use it as a filter.

Each to their own, however a quick 'hi, how's you? Whereabouts are you?' Not too much trouble is it. Besides which, I could be in any town almost anywhere on any given day. Do I really have to constantly change my location just because someone I don't know won't pay a fiver to use the site... I don't think so.

"Can't give my location "

That’s probably because it has only 2 consonants and bloody hard to spell
