Liverpool

After a trip to the cinema recently I was thinking back to the first time I remember being taken to the cinema, with friends, gf/bf and on my own.

1973/4 Disney's Robin Hood

Can't remember the first time I went with friends.

Gf about 1986 Lady Jane Grey

On own - 2020/2021 (well, as soon as cinemas were re-opened), can't remember what film it was

Think I was about 6. Accompanied an aunt and uncle to see some medieval type war film. No idea what it was called. Amazed I was allowed in at that age as it was quite violent and scared me. Spent most of it with hands over my eyes.

Back to the Future 3. Was a year after my parents split. Was at my aunts in Devon with my dad and younger brother the weekend BTTF3 opened. For that whole first year we struggled with things to do to fill the time but after that first cinema visit, that became a weekly thing.

Yes. And you got two features! Plus Pathe News. Plus all the ads.

Audience sizes were such that they had to be running the programme almost continuously, and there was no way they could sort out when people had entered.

Saturday morning matinees were great. They cost 6d i think.

Yes, old westerns, sci-fi - and ours always used to run episodes of serials, with a "cliffhanger" - a literal one sometimes - at the end, to keep us coming back.

Oliver - great musical and a wonderful film.

Child abuse, robbery, burglary, violence, prostitution, murder: all good wholesome family entertainment

Lionel Bart struck gold with that show. At one point he was rumoured to be making £16 per MINUTE. Sadly, he never managed to equal his success with that show, and he eventually lost the lot.
