They're to be sanctioned, have assets frozen etc - I think that will make a huge dent in the number of people crossing the channel

Well the problem is that it is a cross border crime, and you need to have legal co-operation between nations who may have different laws. Because of Brexit we lost access to some on the resources we used to have. The current government is trying to undo some of the damage caused and rebuild agreements with other countries to enable better co-operation - e.g. recent agreements with France and Germany which is a start.

No, it won’t - as per the BBC report this morning. Something is better than nothing and it takes time.

Another sound bite from a useless PM and his Govenment. Looks like Greece are getting tough so Starmer had to announce a new 'initiative'. How is 'smashing' the gangs going...?

It will do nothing and is just bullshit.

Stop the hotels and giving them anything. Ban people employing illegal and threaten prison for those that do.

The problem will stop.

You'd think past 14 years of tory govts would have had decent motivation to do something about it in that case.

Don't put them in hotels, put them into camps till they prove who they are and have to right to stay. Why let them roam around if we don't know who they are?

I agree. A lot of people are carping on about how useless Starmer is but he ‘inherited’ a huge problem and any decent sort would give him time. The conservatives had time and didn’t solve the issue at all.

Because they don't want to. Nobody does outside of the electorate. Cheap labour / black market economy is great for economic growth and costs very little. It's always money at the end of the day.

The EU as an institution hates us and will do nothing to help the UK except gestures or using concessions to extort something from us like grabbing our fishing grounds. They wnat the UK to fail and are delighted we are moppping up migrants for them. All the want is it so get back control of us and our fishing Grounds. It has become, like the late Soviet Union 'an evil empire.'

Migration Watch website disagrees with your analysis: “In 2024, around 37,000 people were detected crossing the Channel in small boats. That was a quarter more than the year before and the second-highest annual figure. In 2022, about 46,000 people crossed the Channel without authorisation”, so you can see, it was worse under the conservatives.

Laughable. Not least cause France and Germany have taken vastly more migrants than we have. Millions more. Literally

Germany does indeed take more undocumented immigrants than the UK.

Does Germany provide hotel acc. for the asylum seekers?. I dont know if it can be done legally, but could this or indeed any government in power in this country stop hotel acc. aid and any other sort of assistance?. or is that illegal.?.

They don’t have to provide hotels at all. They do have to provide assistance in the form of food and drink though if the person is destitute. Which is a pisser really as they will have paid £’s to get here.
