Anyone remember Wordie? The disembodied head covered in letters?

I found him ok but in one of the stories - about a kid from space - there was a creepy silver bloke in a mac and trilby that scared the hell out of me!

German Stormtroopers, they used to hide in our loft when I was a kid, ready to Jump down when I went upstairs. I was scared of coalmen as well.

Bonnie Langford in Just William.

Also though that almost all the characters in rent-a-ghost were creepy. Except I had a crush on the actor that played Timothy Claypole.

The programme that terrified me as a kid was called Escape into Night. It features a little girl who was trapped in an old house that was surrounded by standing stones. The stones were moving ever so slowly toward the house and each one had a big round staring eye. It gave the 6 year old me nightmares for weeks.
