Why are people so frightened about this? You get scanned by facial recognition going into shops these days.

You’re mostly using a mobile that’s tracking you. Sat nav that says where you’ve been.

Can you tell me what are you expecting to happen? I’m baffled?

Private Internet Access lists Albania but is has a really slow ping, etc. and if you think a VPN is the answer then think again? Read this quote :

"According to Ofcom, platforms must not host, share or permit content encouraging use of VPNs to get around age checks.

The government told the BBC under the Online Safety Act, it will be illegal for platforms to do this."

Commercial VPN services list their IP addresses within the trade so if a porn site decides to block a VPN it's easy.

Don't expect ANY "adult platform" to help you to break the law and in doing so break the law themselves! Don't be stupid!

My face is not the same thing. No one can steal anything from me with my face. And walking in any public place, your face can be recorded by anyone else with a camera or a phone.

Australia

It's the usual alarmists with their doom and gloom. I get that they don't want to be exposed but the scenarios on here are really a stretch. And with regards to your personal information that's already out there, a bit of a face scan literally adds nothing... If you've travelled to America or Australia (for example) your finger prints and eye scans are already on file. Probably already sold to Google or some Chinese company lol.

It reminds of the guys that post in the forums then hide or delete their account. I can only imagine living in that level of fear/anxiety over a bit of porn. It must be horrible to never be able to relax about something that everyone else does without batting an eyelid.

As for police state. If you really want to stop the monitoring from big brother going too far. Start using cash again....once we lose cash as legal tender, we're fucked imo.

Not if I know they then run your face through a database- No .

Only recently a lady was wrongly banned from home bargains because her face was flagged.

I agree, the creeping government control is done in stages... until they have there desired police state! Consecutive governments are disposing of the NHS in the same way as they secretly introduce private health care in the UK. They know the vast majority would never agree with the elimination of the NHS, privacy, going cashless... so they do it by stealth and a thousand cuts rather than one cut! Classic government control by useing smoke and mirrors! Social engineering; politicians love it as it panders to the controlling complex most of them have!

Even at home... if you have Alexa, ChatGP, a mobile phone (swtitched on or off), security services can evesdrop on what is being said in you're home! Watch a film called 'Enemy of the State' with Will Smith and Gene Hackman... it's frightening what they can do! And that film was made over thirty years ago!

Your bank account number and sort code are on every cheque you write, if you still use cheques. They’re not secret, but in itself does not give access to your bank account, it just shows you have a bank account. Big deal.

Same goes for all the CCTV in public areas and work places - even police or ambulance cam recordings could be fed into face recognition software.

Using a VPN can dramatically slow down access, downloading etc.

But I have just discovered that you can fire up the VPN and navigate to the site. Then you can close down the VPN. It seems the check is only made on entry.

Can you tell me what are you expecting to happen? I’m baffled?

I don't use shops with facial recognition. Nor do I ever intend to. I have plenty to hide too. I do not wish to live a police state.

It’s not a police state.

What is it you are trying to hide?

But well on its way to one.

Plenty. If you have nothing to hide, please share your bank account numbers and sort codes ?

No, because that allows you to steal my money. It’s a totally false equivalence. 🤣

Anyone can take a photograph of your face in a public place, it does you no harm.

Your bank account number and sort code are on every cheque you write, if you still use cheques. They’re not secret, but in itself does not give access to your bank account, it just shows you have a bank account. Big deal.

Cheques?

This sorta sums up the entire discussion. "

I was quite relaxed about the whole thing, I did the trial with fab which was really easy so I’d assumed other sites would be the same, however I went on porn hub earlier today at it all just looked a right faff which I couldn’t be bothered with. Another adult site I use frequently was the same. It’s easier just to have a wank over fab videos of women on insta now unless I find a way around it.

Some sites I gave up on as the process to verify constantly failed. Just couldn't be arsed to keep trying.

Thisvid website has either blocked the UK or we have blocked them as no access anymore.

Also I dont think that its just a question of people not liking change. For a lot its about the loss of trust in our politicians and governments

This is about stopping kids accessing 18+ sites.....as usual no one thinks outside the box for a solution, Just implement something with no wider thought of the issues it might cause for a lot of people. Just lazy implementation as there is no real talent in any of our politicians.

I verified myself via my phone last night on one site ( can't remember which) and had to use the driver's license for a NSFW Reddit site. It's a good thing for young kids, when I was a kid about 10 my friends older brother showed me some German hardcore stuff and I was freaked out. As a teen the only porn I could see was the communal wank mag in a bush. I darent watch one of my dad's red hot Dutch videos for fear of getting caught and that was a good thing!

I don't use shops with facial recognition. Nor do I ever intend to. I have plenty to hide too. I do not wish to live a police state.

Your face is everywhere, street cameras, shops, bars, hospitals etc...you cant get away from it

So unless you don't go out ever from your house/flat then you are definitely hiding something.

Kids have bypassed security and safeguards in schools to corrupt the computers used in the IT departments for many years , so anyone thinking this legislation is a problem solver needs to review it in a year if not earlier after the kids that it is designed to protect have taken it apart so they get their access back to their wank bank

Just like IT criminal fraudsters they will adapt .

Yeh, thats a reasonable concern. But, your internet service provider already has that data to a degree lol. I remember when I started watching porn or started wanking - being concerned about - what if other people know about my fantasies or the porn I watch.

Eventually I realised that everyone else masturbates or watches it too. I remember as a teenager- I would play PC games late at night sometimes. I overheard my mum on the phone asking the ISP what websites I was on late at night. Thankfully the operator didn't tell her and gave some excuse. (it was just vanilla porn anyway but some of it was gay so I would have been outed). These categories of porn exist for a reason. Other people watch/create it. It's typical human behaviour.

It's not that big of a deal although I understand the concerns.

The thing about legislation like this is it can never keep up with the technology. And it always underestimates the resourcefulness of teenagers. There's probably 100 ways around this age verification thing already. And at the end of the day, the legislation is there to protect young people so it is a good thing.

You can always download porn, make your own, get a proxy.....you don't have to comply but I think you (or your partner) is worrying unnecessarily.

"Some sites I gave up on as the process to verify constantly failed.

Just lazy implementation as there is no real talent in any of our politicians."

You're so right... the caliber of our politicians is at an all time low in the UK.

This is just a UK regulation..so just get a VPN then you can log into porn sites from another country which doesn't act like nanny's to adults.

Plenty. If you have nothing to hide, please share your bank account numbers and sort codes ?

You mean, the information printed on every cheque you’ve ever written?

Sorry it's been too long since I did but point remains "

This forum does show a lot of adults acting like children, so maybe it’s not a bad thing? 😆

That being true doesn’t mean my face being used to gain access to a website has any impact.

This is all howling at the moon by people who hate change.

I've just tried xhamster. Asked for proof. I just ignored the request and clicked on a video. Went straight to it and played. So what's all that about ?

"Tin hats aplenty in this post "

The same tin hat types who were telling you for five years the covid jabs were fucking killing people? You know, the same people that even the WHO have had to admit are right? A healthy dose of tin hat skepticism and critical thinking is a bloody good thing.

Of use a browser with built-in proxy redirection, like Opera.

Or people howling about the restrictions of free speech privacy/anonymity.

While this has been sold as "protecting children" it is a Trojan horse. The legislation includes deliberately vague and nebulous language such as "harmful content"

Who decides what is harmful?

"Private Internet Access lists Albania but is has a really slow ping, etc. and if you think a VPN is the answer then think again? Read this quote :

"According to Ofcom, platforms must not host, share or permit content encouraging use of VPNs to get around age checks.

The government told the BBC under the Online Safety Act, it will be illegal for platforms to do this."

Commercial VPN services list their IP addresses within the trade so if a porn site decides to block a VPN it's easy.

Don't expect ANY "adult platform" to help you to break the law and in doing so break the law themselves! Don't be stupid! "

You gave misunderstood that wording: it just means the sites must not tell people that VPNs get around the age verification requirement. It doesn’t mean the sites cannot allow access via VPNs.

Society, porn is harmful to children, there is copious and ample evidence of that. So the lawmakers of the country decide that harm is not acceptable and act.

That’s exactly what a government is for.

Do you have to age verify every time you log on to a site? I got age verified on gaymaletube.com yesterday after a lot of effort, yet today, it's asking me to go through the whole process again. Also for the life of me, I can't get age verified on xhamster

Offshore now, ignore pistcode

We happily vomit our personal info onto social media and scream North Korean police state when they ask for your age

I’d trust an incompetent UK government over Google or Meta with my data.

If that was the purpose of the law it should have specified and targeted porn only.

Fair enough, I grant you that one.

That reminds me, I stumbled across a white T-shirt with "Don't Bully Me, I'll Cum" scrawled across the front in lavender sharpie at our local cruising ground on Wednesday. Had a quick sniff of the pits and initially thought it might belong to a certain hairdresser from Penge, but am fairly certain I have discovered its true provenance. Does your old man want it back, or shall I keep it?

Sadly YOTI is the most user unfriendly of all the schemes offered, indeed on the web-site you quote is says "Choose your preferred method to verify your age and continue." but then only gives "Continue with Yoti"? The app, the desktop version really doesn't work at all, is so slow that you usually get "timed out" and then have to go back to the beginning again!

Bare in mind that so many platforms and not just users will have left everything to the very last moment that systems will be at risk of crashing? Give it a few weeks.
