I feel peckish again.

Which restaurant in London serves the best Fish and Chips please ?

Have tried the Fish and Chips at Oxbo Restaurant, Hilton Hotel, London Heathrow Airport Terminal 4 before, but it's far to get there even with the convenience of Elizabeth Line.

The Seashell in Lisson Grove has frequently been voted one of the best places for fish and chips in London, it's been there for over 60 years.

I can also vouch for The Nautilus, Fortune Green Rd NW6 (West Hampstead). I've been using the place for over 40 years.

Everything I've ever heard about London fish and chips has suggested that they're shite.

Is it true that you can't get mushy peas or gravy in London chippys either? Sacrilege! 😱

(Not that I would have gravy with fish and chips because that would be revolting.) 🤣

I've had fish and chips from chippies all over the country, in all honesty the best are in Scunthorpe. The worst are in Manchester, the London (inside the M25) chippies just barely meet the national minimum standard. South coast chippies can be good but you really have to go to Wales for anything that comes close to the Northern standard. There is one on the A6 in Furness Vale, near Disley, near Stockport that is exceptional, though a tad expensive.

Very subjective - the best fish & chips are in Lancashire, one shop in particular - Railway Road chippy in Chorley.

Again in Chorley, it's vaping shops and charity shops that take the lead over Turkish barbers, but they are rapidly catching up, lol.

To the OP: Have you ever visited Bang Bang Oriental in Colindale?

It's a large food hall selling Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese, Thai, Korean, Maylasian, Vietnamese etc? I go there regularly and really enjoy it, there's something for all tastes and quite authentic judging by the number of East and South East Asian people who live there. It's good value and you can take home what you don't eat.

As several other people have mentioned, the Seashell in Lisson Grove is very good. If you or tourist friends are looking for the fish and chips experience, it's a consistently safe bet. The other one in central London which didn't disappoint is The Mayfair Chippy, in N Audley St. Both are expensive by local takeaway standards but both are a nice treat. My visitors were delighted.

The best fish & chips I've ever tasted by far was from the original Harry Ramsden's in Guiseley in Yorkshire also at thier Blackpool and Manchester branches and eaten in their restaurant. Totally outstanding!

I have found a few good chippys since but for me personally Harry Ramsden set the bench mark for traditional fish & chips.

Locally, fish, chips and peas at a Greek family owned chippy currently costs £10.10, I don't know how that compares to other areas?

The best fish and chips are on the coast. Whitby has several good ones. The Magpie is outstanding.

Winking Willies in Scarborough has a reputation as well as the Golden Grid. Both on the front by the harbour.

One of the best in the country, ranked by the Times, is Steeles in Cleethorpes. The largest fish are over a foot long.

I'm in London and usually have salt & vinegar on my chips but I have also tried most of the other sauces and condiments that others like.

I usually have home-made chips with either fish, a pie or a pasty once a week, and prefer marrowfat peas to mushy. If not salt & vinegar I put salt & sauce on them, sauce being the Edinburgh mixture of brown sauce & vinegar that I mix myself and keep in a brown sauce bottle.

The first fish and chip shop in the UK is widely considered to be Malin's in Bow, London, opened by Joseph Malin around 1860. I've never eaten jellied eels or had Pie & Mash in my life. Don't let your childish bias get in the way of facts.
