A golden rivet refers to the claim in naval folklore that the final rivet hammered into a ship is a commemorative made of gold. It is allegedly a Royal Navy prank played on new ship members for them to search for a golden rivet low in the bow of the ships’ structure. Commonly ambiguous with a homosexual act as an "initiation" of the person.
