Near you

Does anyone have a diagnosis? What does it mean for you? I've been diagnosed with it today at 37.

It means that at 37 you have probably got a lot of good coping strategies already. Don’t let it get you down - you’re just you.

As someone who has had to become a home expert on this, at your age, you'll have either;

Learned coping methodology, and the factors that allow you to function at the best of your abilities.

Or

Have become so adept at masking it all but you feel like every day is walking on a knife edge of barely coping.

I hope it's the former for you, and if it's the latter. Join the club.

This.

I was diagnosed with ASD a couple of years ago but as I'm now 51 ive long since developed coping strategies without ever realising it. It still sucks sometimes admittedly but I mostly get by.

There are also plenty of times where the latter here applies.

It's a useful "explainer", as in "ah that's why that was odd", or " no I'm not a jerk but I may have been acting like one"

Not much else of benefit, various drugs may help but doctors very slow to even talk about them.

East Stoke

I was diagnosed at 59. It was like A light went on and the world was suddenly clearer. All my life I was odd and awkward. Always anxious, which fed into an already curious mix of behaviours as my mask would slip if I got excited.

Addicted to porn and p@ppers I found myself wanting bigger and more intense thrills so that now I have to be pounded by a top dressed in lingerie to get a decent thrill. I do love a good pounding in group fun.

Wanking to porn with aromas offers a great dopamine fix, but I have destroyed all my long term relationships because of it.

If I could go back and talk to 16 year old me, I'd hug him and tell him he's OK. That he has a different set of glasses in which he see's the world, and that he was born this way. He ain't odd, he's just designed better.

We are much funnier, that's for sure.

Im going on ritalin soon. Never tried it, so cross fingers it stops the noise in my head.

I was diagnosed in my 30s as ASD & ADHD, it didn’t change anything other than explain why I do some things the way I do.

ADHD are a local tribute band, they do a half decent cover of 'Whole lotta Rosie'.
