Okay she should never have been jailed in the first place. A suspended sentence, a fine or community work would have been more appropriate. As for Starmer, useless as he is, I doubt he will be out before the end of the year. Besides what do you replace him with? Rayner, Cooper, Streeting? With a ridiculously large majority and polls suggesting annihilation there is no way there is going to be a general election as much at the Faragites fantasise about it. The sentence was maybe a little harsh, but she said some horrendous things and encouraged others to commit acts of violence. As I understood it, there was legislation in place that prevented people such as her from profitting from their crimes, but I can't actually find the appropriate act and section at the moment to quote. | |||

If Ricky James pleaded guilty, then he may have got a prison sentence also, instead he took it to trial and was found not guilty. Lucy Connolly had the right to take it to trial as well, just like Ricky Jones, instead she pleaded guilty. If she took it to trial, there could have been the chance of her getting a not guilty verdict, but she decided not to, and instead she plead guilty. Not whataboutery at all but a pertinent question. Big similarities between the two. Whether she was right or wrong Mrs Connelly presumed, or was ill advised, to plead guilty/own up to what she had done. Usually this results in a more lenient sentence. In her case it resulted in a very harsh one. Had she pleaded not guilty and got an unsympathetic jury and a hardline Starmerite judge, she might have got 10 years. Jones took the risk. Amazingly the jury found him not guilty and he got away with it. Little wonder people are talking about a two-tier system. How exactly is it a two-tier system when she had the right and the chance to take it to trial? She forfeited that and decided to plead guilty. If Ricky James pleaded guilty, then he may have got a prison sentence also, instead he took it to trial and was found not guilty. Lucy Connolly had the chance to do that as well, but she (may have been badly advised to), plead guilty. What exactly is two-tiered about that?
