Sack them all and make all the trains driverless, like the Docklands light railway.

Docklands light railway always has a trained driver on board for safety purposes. They just don’t sit at the front.

£75k yr plus OT/shift allowance and they want more money and reduction to a 32hr working week.

Bit of a joke really, especially as khan gave £300million last year to avert strikes now they back for more.

But that is only because the unions kicked up a stink. Got to most other major cities, there undergrounds are driverless. It is the way forward

Driverless is sadly the way forward. But then the engineers/track cleaners etc will be the ones on strike, if employers don't stick to agreements.

How quickly could the lines be made driverless? What's an acceptable number of deaths as they "refine the process"?

In the meantime Tim , support the unions , because 75 top salary is only unusual, because other wages have not had unions and have flat lines for thirty years.

Driven lines across the world have been made driverless without having to accept a number of deaths.

Well said 👍

There were a number here stating the pay rises would enable people to get back to work! Well that didn't work!

Pure greed and nothing else by the drivers. Same for the junior doctors strike.

Labour never learn. Country is desperate for growth and they haven't got a clue

I lived in European cities with driverless trains. Always on time and never on strike.

DLR was built to be "driverless" but there is someone on board who can take over if the computer system goes down in the event of an emergency

It would cost millions of £s to upgrade all of the underground signalling system and the tracks and take years to do it.

You would find lines closed for ages to be upgraded.

I hope you remember to tell those greedy Doctors as they save the life of someone you love. Or as you lay dying and they are using the knowledge they earned while running up £100,000 and more of debt to save your sorry arse.

Spot on. I'd add also sack and let them reapply for their jobs back.

It's a joke and the culture not changed in 30 years. Same as the over ground.

That did not give them the right to put other lives in danger.

What a stupid comment. By definition everyone has the right to get sacked.

Esp these greedy buggers who wouldn't know what a customer was if it looked them in the eye.

I expect by the comment you don't work in the private sector, where you are accountable to the paying customer?

Trade unionists' persistent and unrealistic demands have historically led to unsustainable pressures on industries.

The 1970s saw similar tensions, resulting in significant job losses and the decline of UK manufacturing, which limited opportunities for future generations.

A similar scenario is likely to play out with London Tube drivers, where ongoing union action is likely to accelerate the transition to AI-controlled systems, rendering human drivers obsolete and the long-term consequences seem to be overlooked in the process.

To paraphrase His Excellency Sir Clarkson of Jeremy, I'd put all of them up against a wall and shoot the lot of them. In front of their families. Slowly. Using an absurd accent. It would be a good fresh start.

So you don't support wage control via collective bargaining and your happy that you without union representation have seen your wages flat line for last thirty years while corporate returns went up by an average of 150% for FTSE 500 over similar period?

Just checking I'df this was a principled decision on lowering average wage or just bloody minded jealousy?
