Hi, I’m hoping to go to Touch in Swindon on Tuesday and whilst I’m looking forward to it but I’d like to play safe. I’m wondering how many guys tend to use condoms and how I would signal my preference for using them?

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to just go with the flow but I’m partnered up and couldn’t take anything home.

Are saunas really that risky?

Tia

Just shower and stroll around and watch.

Enjoy the steam room , have a swim ,

Men will chat.

Invite you , take it slowly.

Just tell them that condoms are to be used

Biting the pillow

Its very easy to get overly excited and "forget" the safety. A lot of guys in saunas dont and/or won't use protection. I would strongly recommend contacting your local sexual health clinic, get on PrEP and get tested regularly. Have your HPV and MPox injections. The clinics are much more accommodating than you may think. They know prevention is better than cure. If something happens in the heat of the moment, the worst you'll have to suffer is a course of antibiotics.

I prefer to take it bareback but if I was in your position I’d get a condom when you arrive (depending on the sauna some have them in the rooms, others you get condoms from reception) and once changed tuck the condom sachet and maybe a lube sachet under key strap, saves you carrying it all the time though of the time when you hook up with someone they ask you if you are into safe or bareback. Thing to remember is everything is laid back ok don’t feel worried or pressured about conforming to what someone might ask. Everyone is pretty easy-going in those places.

That’s great advice thanks! Are saunas really that rife for catching nasties? I hadn’t ever thought about HPV. Is that pretty common to catch?

In saunas you’re more likely to have sex with more than one person so technically the risk is more.

HPV vaccine for gay men is to give some protection against anal cancer and some protection against genital warts.

The majority of us pick up wart virus within the first year of being sexually active. Around 80% of us carry it.

They are vaccinating children against it in school to give the best protection before they are sexually active.

The cut off is 45 for vaccinating men so get to the clinic quick.

I go to Touch a lot and are amazed when I see guys kneeling, arse up, taking whoever and whatever sticks it in. No discussions about protection. I always have a condom or two tucked in the locker band and ensure I use them. Its easy to get carried away and ignore them, but its your body your health.

But please, go and enjoy. Tuesday afternoons can be a blast.

Thanks! I’ll be contacting a clinic later!

Of you've got a partner and you don't want then to find out then definitely use a condom. It doesn't protect you 100% but like you said you don't want to take anything home.

Or be having to visit clinics. Plus some std are for life.

And to be honest, if you're a bottom you want know the difference of they have a condom on or not. But you'll be protected.
