3i Atlas nearing Mars in October, Eath around December..

Likely from another Galaxy, over 7 billion years old...its mainly nickel not the expected iron and nickel..

Don't expect 7 of 9 to visit you anytime soon...or will she !.

Be afraid be very afraid..

Keep watching the skies...

ps.don't have nightmares...

You know what? AI is actually very very boring…

Here’s a summary of what’s known so far about 3I/ATLAS (C/2025 N1 ATLAS) — the recently discovered interstellar comet. Happy to dig into more detail if you like (origins, potential missions, etc.):

What it is

• 3I/ATLAS is an interstellar object (ISO), meaning it is not gravitationally bound to the Sun and is passing through the Solar System on a hyperbolic trajectory.

• It is only the third interstellar object confirmed so far, after 1I/{¬yrs=¬}Oumuamua and 2I/Borisov.

• Discovered by ATLAS (Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System) in Chile on 1 July 2025.

Orbit & Motion

• It has a hyperbolic orbit (eccentricity 1), which is how astronomers know it came from outside the Solar System.

• Closest approach (“perihelion”) to the Sun is expected around 29-30 October 2025, at about 1.36-1.40 AU (astronomical units) — just inside Mars’s orbit.

• Its closest approach to Earth is much further: around 1.6-1.8 AU so it does not pose any threat.

Physical & Chemical Properties

• Size estimates (nucleus) are a bit uncertain: anywhere from ~0.32 km up to ~5.6 km in diameter depending on assumptions.

• Composition is unusual:

• The coma is dominated by carbon dioxide (CO₂), much more so than seen in many Solar System comets.

• Water (H₂O), carbon monoxide (CO), carbonyl sulfide (OCS) and water ice are also present, though in lesser amounts.

• The CO₂/H₂O ratio is especially high—about 8:1, which is far above typical Solar System comets at comparable distances.

• Observations also show cometary activity (coma, some gas outgassing) even when relatively far from the Sun. For example, water production has been measured at ~3.51 AU.

Importance & What It Tells Us

• Because it’s interstellar, 3I/ATLAS offers a rare window into the composition and conditions of another star system’s small bodies. It helps compare how comets form in different places and under different environmental conditions.

• Its chemical signature (very CO₂-rich) suggests formation in a colder environment (maybe near a CO₂ ice line) or where volatile ices weren’t processed heavily. That helps in understanding where and how comets and icy bodies form in protoplanetary disks.

|I'm willing to bet if we study it closely we'll see a number of people stranded there, having got on a South West Trains replacement bus service some time ago.

Probably not this one then, but keep watching the skies, and one day it might even be Rama.

But we'll need a better space program than the current shambles or there won't be any "rendezvous"

(With more than a nod to Arthur C Clarke)

The problem with the current space program is that it needs to be concerned with reality.

Our good friend Mr Clarke was able to ignore that when required to make a story worth reading.

Typical. When 3i Atlas nearest to Mars..NASA shut down due to USA government shut down..

Have to rely on ESA and China for observations.

I'm afraid it's looking increasingly unlikely that we're going to find intelligent life on Earth 🦧
