Why wink?

Why do people wink on here if it’s not to start a dialogue?

I received a wink today, checked the profile of the winner and messaged him with thanks and an expression of genuine interest in taking it further.

The message has been read but not replied to.

Feels odd.

Agree, I see a wink as testing the water, and a positive reply as a show of interest.

Don’t put too much in a wink. It’s not communication. A wink is a mood and changes day to day for some.

Done by mistake [fat fingers] or just to say they appreciate your profile/photos, or as an ice breaker. They wink, you look at their profile and may be tempted to take things further.

At the beginning of my Fabguys times aeons ago I used to get ever so excited about winks (now it's all about w*nks!) but I soon learned they are only passing tokens of visual appreciation, on the whole (pun unintended); or a useful tool for the terminally shy amongst us. Occasionally they've been followed up with the odd polite comment. I never use them, lest they are ignored or misunderstood. It's always nice to get them [I imagine... ] but don't attach too much meaning or intention to them anymore

I always send a wink to someone I'm interested in, just to see if I get a wink back and see if the interest is mutual

Maybe he had enough time to log in and check for responses and messages but not enough time to send you a decent reply. Some people would prefer to wait and make an effort rather than rush a reply.

I’m going to hope you’re right!

I rarely wink as a first move, if someone winks at me I will wink back if there's something of interest to me in their profile, I will generally follow this with a message trying to open up some conversation, more often than not the other person doesn't respond, I guess they'd had their wank and are no longer interested.

Absolutely this!

Why do people wink then completely ignore a message- even one as vanilla as "thanks for the wink". Not even bothering to read it on most occasions.

Doubly frustrating when the guy sending the wink looks your type.

I can only assume the sender is a time waster.

Sometimes just a gesture of appreciation, but I usually thank a winker for their input.

I agree. Winking is the ice breaker to start a conversation, and I mean conversation, not just hi!

For me a wink means ' like your profile. If you are interested get in touch' Even says that on my profile. No response is a response in itself

I like winks. It's a good way to say 'do you also wanna chat!' much better than hi message! Wonk either way to know it's good to chat!
