I’m in both the National Trust and English Heritage and like going to visit the historic sites and buildings. Who else is in them? Which is your favourite?

I don’t like the way Birling Gap has been wrecked by them.

I've been to visit ham house of the national trust

And with English heritage my favourite was Rochester castle. I also went to see St Augustine Abbey in Canterbury and Jewry walk. Both were very beautiful

Sure there's many more beautiful places yet to see

Rochester Castle was besieged by King John and because it had square towers his men were able to undermine it, put in brushwood under the foundations, send in pigs on fire to burn the wood and boom! the tower collapsed. They rebuilt it circular.

Ah I remember seeing that at the roof of the castle but missed the fact that it went from square to circular. Certainly was fascinating. I liked the cathedral next to it as well

Used to be in National Trust.

Only stopped because there aren't really many places up here and wouldn't get the value.

National Trust member for over 20 years , but don’t like how PC they are getting. Don’t see any need to be “outing” previous occupants of the houses etc .

Castle Drogo, Colyton Fishacre and Lanhydock are among my favourites…

been there! If I remember rightly, you have to walk near a golf course to get there and its a long way from the car park.

That’s the one mate it’s a beautiful walk along the dunes from the golf course or you can walk from Craster and pop into the pub on the way back 😁

I like their politics. Critically reframing what would have once been acceptable attitudes for a more enlightened modern audience, what's wrong with that?

Also, without these organisations we'd have very little of our proud British heritage left.

My Mrs also has an absolute favourite woolly blanket from a NT gift shop.

Used to do Medieval shows at various EH sites around the country.

Was pretty cool to 'authenti-camp' at these sites for the weekend.

Did anyone go to the medieval event at Bodiam Castle in Sussex in the summer? Where a real event occurred? Spoiler alert - I was there and a poor sod got a sword in his eye and head.

Knitted by child laborers in a Guangdong sweatshop ... Won't be wool either.

It'll be pubic hair, forcibly removed from Tibetan Buddhists.

Shame on the NT for profiting off the miseries of others!

Won't go into details here, but their fudge is well dodgy too.

I'll ask around, I'm not sure who was running that event.

I've had a few injuries over the years, broken ribs & badly sprained ankles plus a concussion.

Tends to happen when people are fighting with pole-arms!

😁 I know who builds a castle in a cliff top with 360” views 🤷🏻

I often go there and climb the tower to watch the sunset it’s one of my favourite places to go and think about life 😊

Richmond. North Yorkshire

Enjoy visiting the smaller properties. Can recommend Mr Straw's house in Worksop.

A visit to NT properties in Liverpool is on the bucket list for next year. The Beatles related properties & The Hardmans house & photographers studio.

Two people I know have been NT live in custodians. Great to have a swanky address but both found that they were expected to be on call 24/7 & use of their quaters for event catering etc. Both felt that the trust got their pound of flesh from their staff.

I concur with that. NT seem to have gone a bit woke which is annoying and unnecessary. Visited the three you mentioned above. Lanhydrock probably a dozen times. Plus several others in the West country as well as Herefordshire, Shropshire, Cumbria and East Anglia.
