The thing I always liked about it was that it was genre-blind. If it's a good track to dance to and people cut a rug to it, it's in. Hence a rock band like Babe Ruth could have a Northern Soul classic like Elusive.

I love Northern Soul.

Not sure if you use Spotify, but they have a "Northern Soul Classics" playing I often listen to.

The Jelly Beanz - You don't mean me no good.

Betty Turner and the Chevelles - The winds kept laughing.

Dean Parrish - Tell her.

I love Northern Soul!

I love doing the dancing as well. Used to be a few Northern Soul nights in Suffolk, but gone a bit quiet of late.

"The snake is total crap."

It's a good song, you can't just judge it because Trump hijacked it for his racist campaign.

Yes, I liked their version also. I heard that first before I discovered the Judy Street version.

Interesting you say that, because I have never liked it either. Whenever it comes on, I'm off the dance floor

Just thought of two other favourites:

Willie Jones - Where's my money

Vince Edwards - It's the same old song (The Four Tops also did a version).

I don't know if it is because it's the first time i have ever heard it but I liked it, it's unusual, I knew nothing of Trump using it in his campaign mind you.

Thanks for all these great suggestions everyone, I prefer creating my own playlists as opposed to spotify

My go-to tracks are:

Tami Lynn - I'm Gonna Run Away From You

Donnie Elbert - I Can't Help Myself

I know that the Donnie Elbert track is a cover of the Four Tops, but I think it is one of those rare occasions when the cover is equal to or (IMHO) better than the original.

Forgot Tami Lynn. Love that also. I'm not sure if I prefer Kiki Dee's version instead though. Sounds more upbeat to my ears.
