They are all much of a muchness as they all run on BT phone lines, the only real difference is the customer service when it breaks.

We switched to Virgin and it has been more or less trouble free for the last 15 years.

I think until you get the fibre optic cabled installed in your area it will continue to be crap. I have the same issue with Vodafone.

They have upgraded some areas in the county here, just not got to my area yet!

This is a good answer. Most bb operate over openreach, so the actual technical service will be the same.

Find a small independent ISP local to you where you can actually talk to a real person on the phone. Customer service is key to success with ISP's. The likes of spy, vagina, vodacrap and ST have all become bloated and useless with atrocious none existent customer service. They also hike there subsciptions at every opportunity... AVOID!

I'm with Community Fibre in London, £20pcm for 500 Mbps Full Fibre Broadband with free router and installation. I have several wireless nodes to provide a mesh throughout the house and it's solid as a rock.

As others have said, if you don't have a full fibre option it's all just the same. There's no word really on when they will upgrade this area, so I just stick with EE because it's not been unreliable, just dont as fast as I'd like.

Sounds good... just be careful when the contract term ends, esp if its on auto renewal! They may try and hike the subscription to eye watering levels!

Check if Toob is available in your area - they are expanding over the country. Fibre 900mbs symmetrical (both directions if you don’t understand) £29 per month for 18 months NO IN CONTACT PRICE RISES. No phone line (I got Vonage for £16 per month UK landline [01, 02, 03] and mobile calls included) which runs through the broadband, and run sky stream (2 pucks) for TV. When I ditched Virgin Media I nearly halved my bill.

Is it the broadband or just the Wi-Fi? If the latter, you can buy boosters or buy your own router if your ISP allows that. The usual free ones you get are pretty basic with poor performance.

Surely it'll come down to what is available in your area, what you use it for, and ultimately what you can afford/want to pay.

Were on Virgin but the service was very unreliable in this area which is not ideal when I work from home for the majority of the time so switched to EE 900mbps and (tempting fate, I know!) but it has been fine.

All work files are stored in the cloud so a lot of up/down loading (not talking little Excel or Word docs, I do a lot of video editing for work and a single file can be over 40Gb and work with multiple files at a time), no TV arial since moving the TV so only stream and all works fine.

Check comparison sites to see whats available near you.

No, they're very upfront about price increases. My £20 per month is guaranteed for 2 years, then a £2pcm increase every April. They're far better than Sky, who I was previously with.

I've been with Virgin for several years and had some sticky moments. However, being insistent that they deal with issues pays off: I now have a reasonably priced deal with speeds reliably sitting at 500-600Mbps 🙂

Wow.

I pay £75 for Starlink. I really don't want to support Elon, but where we are it's an essential service.

Apart from one big outage the other week, it's been rock solid and earlier was getting over 400mb.

But it ain't cheap.

Zen internet. UK based support team and no throttling of your connection.

Their free router is fine but I bought my own Ubiquiti one with mesh points throughout the house and garden.

It's not the cheapest but it's the best I've used.

Zen internet without any doubt.

They are a little pricier than some, but the product is superb and just as important, if not more so (though I rarely need it) their service is absolutely fantastic.

Most people go with cheaper providers but when there is any problem you get plunged into a nightmare of "support" staff who ask stupid questions from a sheet and drive you up the wall.

Zen's staff are all in Yorkshire and they are fantastic.

No connection with them other than as a very satisfied customer for over 20 years.

Agreed re Zen but as I posted earlier, is it the broadband or the Wi-Fi? Is it ok on a wired connection? 95% of the time when people complain about the broadband and connections, it’s the Wi-Fi that’s the issue.

Didn’t get signal in back of house next day a booster arrived. All very easy to do. However it took 3 months before I got the bag to send my bt router sent to me. And 5 phone calls. To get the charges refunded.

I must admit I use 3 on a wireless 5G signal. Absolutely brilliant get about 250mb ps on a good day works uhd tv and wireless hub. You need a good signal though. Works out at 25£ a month. No need for a cable just plug the box in in a suitable place.

Yea, I was surprised how expensive it is in the UK, its ridiculous when its using the same equipment & satellites. In Spain we pay €40 (about £35) a month. As you say, apart from that one global outage its faultless & we get over 300mb. We're in a very rural area & nothing else comes close, our previous supplier was around 20mb & dropping out regularly.

That's a crazy better price. It like a lot of things, the country gets charged as much as they think that can get away with.

It's sucks but it's a absolute must.

I’m with EE they also gave me a hybrid connect. It’s basically a small router with an EE SIM card in it. £37 a month.

My connection goes through phases where it drops a lot. Had Openreach round multiple times, apparently there’s noise on the line…..but not coming from my property.

They said it may take them ages to find the issue and might never find it.

At the moment I’m getting about 35, but it can dip away down to 5.

I gave up reporting a fault.

Know a few people here who have Starlink, but it’s the price putting me off
