Bird habits?

Birds need fat for winter so I usually put out some fat balls but they've not been eating them. Nor have I seen as many birds as usual lately.

Has anyone else noticed a change in the habits of birds?

Still plenty of fruit on the bushes.

It is usually after the first frost they go crazy on my fat balls.

They will take the fat balls later in the year, plenty of natural food available at the minute.

It isn't winter yet though. Next you'll be telling us they're already selling Christmas stuff at Aldi.

Youse are probably right but they've been eating the fat balls at a faster rate in the summer than now, they've hardly been touched, but maybe some have migrated south

Yep, the bushes and trees around here still have plenty of fruit on them, so they'll be going for that.

I can hear lots of them flying about. The blue tits have been picking insects and spiders around my windows too which has been funny to see as they suddenly appear upside down!

When I see the gulls squawking, I always think you can really see how they are descended from

Dinosaurs. Scaly clawed feet, raucous noise, aggressive, omnivorous, always watching….watching….then POUNCE! The chips are gone.

"Parakeets spotted in a relatives garden in Kent. "

They live in London all year quite happily, especially in Greenwich Park.

Eh almost as soon as I started this thread there's been loads of birds about probably going for the fruit there's loads of blackberries near in my area.

Do many of our native birds head from north to south in the UK during colder months..? There isn't much of a difference in temps but it's more likely to be warmer.

They are more likely to migrate to Africa via France and Spain. There are fewer wild birds these days than when I was a boy. Used to be huge flocks of starlings fly over for literally minutes, 3 or 4 minutes constant circa 1975 or so.
