Anni Dewani, a Swedish woman of Indian decent was murdered on her honeymoon in South Africa in 2010 after her taxi was hijacked.
While three men were convicted and jailed for the killing after pleading guilty, the allegations that her husband, Shrien Dewani, had plotted the murder were eventually dismissed by a South African judge due to insufficient evidence, leaving his role in the crime unclear.
It emerged that her husband, from Bristol, was gay and it was suggested that he only went through with the arranged marriage because of pressure from his wealthy Hindu family.
Does anyone know this guy at all?
Although I was a regular at The Hoist in London around the time of Shrien Dewani's attendance, I don't think I met him, I tend to avoid "subs" in such situations.
A very interesting case, but essentially the case against him is too circumstantial. The witnesses in South Africa are unreliable liars and the motive for murder is too elusive for a successful prosecution.
