Of course, and thank you for being responsible. Any NHS sexual health clinic can help. They won't tell your GP and will keep things very confidential. You could even go to one in a different town if you want. You'll find local phone numbers on the internet. PrEP is free on the NHS and the additional advantage of NHS is they will give you a full sexual health MOT each time you get a refill. Many clinics rely on contact by text, so if you have someone likely to nose through your phone, tell the clinic. Good luck.

There is also the new injection which is being rolled out too.

Just remember that PrEp doesn’t protect you from everything, so get all the vaccines you can and be aware of other things that can be transmitted

I've never tried anything else apart from Oral.

Would it be possible to buy prep ,just a couple doses, ie a one off day 5 days tablets , and where would you buy them ?

I dont meet up that often , and want to protect myself should anything else happen.

You can buy PrEP if it's peace of mind you want, and do event based dosing. Do your research and have a look at Dynamix Prep. Far easier cheaper, and safer to simply get it from the NHS and get into a regular testing routine there. They won't know you don't do anal unless you tell them.

Rawcliffe Bridge.

Look for your local sexual health clinic, and book an appointment.

You will be offered a few checks, then prep.

This is all anonymous and will not go on your medical records.

I am on event-based prep only as I am very selective with guys I have sex with though several times I let go and have sex fun with guys I dont know very well. Can't help it when I see sexy guys I want to suck and get fucked. But I never catch any infection so far.

I recently moved and made an appointment with my new local clinic.

They asked about contact methods, could they text/email specifically to maintain confidentiality as well as could they inform my GP. It is very easy to make your interaction with them very discreet if that is your wish.

You can ask them to dispense only one bottle at a time if yours worries about storage.

Do ask about doxyPEP, Mpox and Gonorrhoea vaccines as well.

Not wanting to take tablets might not be enough to warrant injectable prep. So do tell them about your personal situation.

For both yourself and the OP I would really recommend going to your local clinics. I'm not out so total discretion is really important to me. For me the clinic asked how I want to receive any communication, whether or not I want my GP contacting. They explained what PreP does and doesn't do. Gave me a full set of tests. I wasn't expecting to have an STI, but I was actually relieved when I got the 'All clear'. Being certain rather than just thinking I was OK felt good.

Talking with the nurse about things other than HIV was an eye-opener for me. I hadn't realised how many people have an STI but don't know becasue they don't show any symptoms. Also how many STI infections are through oral sex. I now get tested regularly. I got vaccinated for Hepatitis A and B, also the Meningitis vaccine - while its designed to stop Meningitis and Septicaemia it also reduces the chance of Gonorrhea significantly.

I know this all seems like a lot, but the clinics are used to dealing with people in our situation. They were really clear, helpful and straightforward making it a lot easier than it sounds.

Due to me working away , I don't have time to get to a clinic, or the appointment times are just dont fit in with work, I just need enough for 1 week really , can this be bought online ?

As others have said you are best off going to your local clinic where you will be checked and offered not only Prep but also other protective measures as well as advice.

However, if you still don’t/won’t go to a proper clinic and insist on buying privately, whatever you do buy from a reliable regulated source. Remember there are so many fake drugs being sold that you have no idea what they really contain out there. At best they may give no protection at all, at worst they could cause serious illness and organ damage (while leaving you open to HIV infection).

Yes, I used to use dynamix before now get it from clinic. You can only order up to 3 months without prescription but should be fine. Their website used to be like something from the 1990s but never had any issues - it gets shipped usually out of India or south Africa so there is a wait time.

As above its definitely easier to try get to local clinic but it is a reasonable alternative (or used to be haven't used it for a few years).

FYI you can use/take PREP in 2 ways: daily, or 'event based'.

Go to an STI centre to discuss your needs, you won't regret it.

I know because I've been through this recently.

One big point that needs to be said - you need to be tested and clear of HIV BEFORE you start taking Prep, this is something that the Clinic checks before giving you Prep - a simple blood test they do there and then. If it turns out that you have HIV and didn’t know it, Prep will have no effect whatsoever and you need completely different drugs, and you will be a risk to anyone you have already been with and anyone else that you go with. This is why going to the clinic is such an important part of getting Prep because they will test you first.

While I don't disagree, it doesn't necessarily need to be a clinic testing scenario. I tested before buying prep using sh24, then every 3 months using sh24. Did this for several years without stepping foot in a clinic. I went to the clinic because I was fed up of paying for something I could get for free on the NHS. The distinct advantage of clinics is the knowledge and wraparound support, but not everyone needs or wants that. I didn't.

Of course you can get the tests by post, however both the OP and another poster both only wanted to buy some without showing any understanding about how to use it (daily or event based) or the need to be tested and clear of HIV before starting - all things that would be explained by a clinic, as well as being offered Hepatitis jabs etc. So in short if you are clued up you can get tested by post and you could buy on line (but make sure they are reputable if buying online). However (no disrespect to the posters) I got the impression that they just wanted to buy prep and were unaware of the need to be tested and clear first and why this needed to be done - the sort of information clinics would educate you about.

Another important reason for going to a clinic. They need to check your liver and kidney to see if you have any existing issues before they give you prep.

Regular testing is SO impirtant and we must all do our bit on this. Starting PrEP was a big step for me but its great not having to worry so much now im on it. I have had every vaccine i can but will ask at next appoinment about gonorrhoea vaccine too.

On Prep & get tested, it's more for piece of mind, always put when tested results come through on profile & always get the injections if they offer them.

I have just started prep. You can go to any sexual clinic. You dont need to give your name just something u can be identified with. They will take a blood test (does not hurt)

They will offer u the jabs of hep b gonnarhea and monkey pox which i had there and then then a follow up 6 weeks later. I said I swallow spunk and a lot of it with anonymous men. They put me on prep. U get 3 months supply and renew when running out. Everything is done by text or email. They are very friendly and will put u at ease. U can't always get to see someone straight away so get booked in at a local sex clinic and protect yourself

I got PReP a few months ago, really easy and discreet.

They've also offered me vaccinations for herpes and A type of hep too.

Funnily enough, last vac I got the nurse kinda shamed me for not using any lol.

Even the docs are telling me I get none 😭

Can I ask what people do about the suggested blood test, to check if there's been any side effects.

Do you go to the GP, or would sti screening flag that too.

Also, if you do get any of the less serious possible side effects, like nausea, do they stop after a while.

That was my concern with starting just before needing.

Thanks.

Sexual health clinic do all the regular follow up blood tests etc. Usually give you supply for next 3 to 6 months while there.

I only had disturbed sleep/vivid dreams as a side effect. Settled down after first 3 weeks or so.

Everything is done by the sexual health clinic. They won't even tell your GP unless you ask them to. The blood test is mandatory. As well as checking for stis it is checking your kidney function. Prep is a globally well tolerated medicine.

nausea only lasts a few hours but not everyone gets it. Worth it for a lifetime of protection.
