Are Catholic monasteries in Ireland still operating? Good to have a quiet time for reflection after lots of fun.

Llandrindod Wells

There are a few Catholic monasteries in England, Wales and Scotland as well. Few and far between and dwindling in numbers as failing to get new recruits. Also tend to be tourist attractions--lie Buckfast Abbey, Devon, and Caldey Abbey on Caldey Island off the Pembrokeshire coast--so you may not get the peace and quiet you were hoping for. There are religious retreats for most Christian denominations. Often remote farms etc. Might be worth googling them.

Mount Melleray in Co. Waterford closed recently.

I think the remaining monks moved to Roscrea.

Not sure how many monasteries are left.

I've watched all the Father Ted episodes several times over but I don't recall a monastery ever being featured or referenced.

Nunneries and nuns - yes. Monasteries and monks - no.
