Glalaxy was developed for women. From their website "When the Galaxy® brand launched in 1960, we helped women choose a new kind of pleasure for the first time, bringing a modern, sophisticated chocolate to a Britain finally free from the constraints of rationing".

"It's not even chocolate anymore!"

That's quite correct, by EU standards a product has to have a certain percentage of cocoa to be called chocolate! Both Cadbury and recently McVieties... have failed that level, so are no longer chocolate! That's why they taste so bad! Belgian or Swiss chocolate is the real deal! The UK can't even make chocolate anymore...

That vague vomit aroma /taste is deliberate, way back when they started the milk was not as fresh as they'd like and cost/pragmatism they used slightly sour milk which gave a distintive flavour. If you grew up with it as the American's did its 'normal'. But is also part of why mainstream American chocolate was always poor and merged into 'candy' as a confection description.

Plus, it's used to extend the shelf life as it's very highly saturated fat = very unhealthy and thousands of acres of rainforest are being cleared away to grow more of it as a cash crop, therefore destroying natural habitats for endangered species and making the lives of the indigenous people unsustainable.
