Ive rently got the jim jones superstars live album and it blew my mind the power of it .

So i wondered what are peoples top 5 live albuns and why in no order .

Mine are

Face to face. By steve harley for me ,a man at his peak and not one bad track .

David live(the new version with the soul stuff) david bowie . I loved the orginal just more than the ziggy one but with the included soul tracks ,it is just superb .

Roxy london w2 various..a punk album from the last nights of the roxy ,it gave memusic of punk acts yet to release a record .

Viva roxy . Roxy music at there best .

Status quo live ,the early status quo before they got to commercial .

And first reserve yessongs yes ,triple album ,and the close to the edge incredible

They're generally not that good unless adulterated with studio overdubs (looking at you, Thin Lizzy Live and Dangerous), but I had a soft spot for Lynyrd Skynyrd's One More From The Road as a kid.

For as live, grungy and nasty as it gets, Television's The Blow Up is rough as fuck and all the better for it (had the original ROIR cassette years ago)

Neil Young has done it best; Time Fades Away is a ballsy, rough and ragged live album of new-at-the-time material, and Live Rust basically invented the entire grunge genre.

The david live album crowd are actually from a peter frampton gig .

Yeh some get redone .

The roxy london one wasnt lol ,it was taped from the toilets ,you can here conversations in the toilets between tracks.

Good choices but was never a fan of discharge .

Saw them support the uk subs at the russel club in manchester ,total chaos and violence .

Not an album.. but Radiohead/ live from the basement (on YouTube) is peak music.. it’s not hyperbole to say that Radiohead is the greatest band of this century.. and I’m willing to argue about the last century too…

I listen to Stop Making Sense quite often in the car. Still sounds as good as the first time I heard it, but it's best on video. You need to see the suit!!!

And we have the Winner. Stop Making Sense, for me, THE Best live album and Yes it’s even better visually. As mentioned, the suit, the start with DB and a boom box for Psycho Killer, then as the band is brought on one at a time, and once all together they just blow the roof off.

Some other good contenders mentioned though with The Who in Leeds, SLF Hanx & See You Up There…..

Good thread.

Live (The Sensational Alex Harvey Band) has just turned 50 years old.

There isn't a weak track on the album, but Alex's interaction with the audience on Framed is outstanding. I was fortunate to see them play live the following year, 1976, in Manchester and they didn't disappoint.
