What's it like living with tons of uncollected rubbish? How is it affecting you?

It doesn't. There was a few weeks at the start and 2 weeks a few months ago but apart from that the rubbish on my street has been collected apart from recycling.

Whether that will change due to agency staff joining the strike I can't say yet.

I recall a certain J Clarkson suggesting (sensibly I thought) that all that stupid HS2 expenditure, designed to reduce the time taken to travel from London to Birmingham, could be more easily achieved (and at huge cost savings) by demolishing Birmingham and moving it closer to London. I would only suggest leaving out the rebuilding bit...

I’ve visited Bham a lot and it’s like any other big city. There are some areas not that nice but others that are worth seeing. Reminds me a lot of Glasgow. Similar heritage.

Met a lot of decent people from various backgrounds and ethnicities and never had a bad experience.

I’m a fan…

I don't live in Birmingham, but 15 miles away.

In my opinion, it's heavily underrated. Most of the antipathy stems from a wartime radio series that portrayed a Black Country woman with a thick accent and quite dumb.

Stereotyping of the worst kind.

By the way, I was born in London, so my observations are those of an outsider.

It’s been redeveloped and improved in an ongoing way over the last 30+ years.

I was there overnight a short time ago and it was lively and fun. Good bars, restaurants and shops. The station is a massive improvement.

Many people running it down on here have either never been or haven’t been for ages.

Ah the sage that is Clarkson, quoted by the man from Winchester.

Why would a Brummie need to be closer to London?

Anyway back to the subject, as mentioned, at first it was a bit dodgy, OK now although no recycling etc, the biggest problem is people taking the opportunity to fly tip anywhere they see an opportunity, making a mess for the locals, although some must be locals themselves.

"What's it like living with tons of uncollected rubbish? How is it affecting you?"
The bin strike has seen a massive improvement to the service and collections before the strike. You might think I am joking but it's a reality. Where I live there has never been piles of rubbish stacking up, the "agency" bin men now doing the job have never missed a collection, they turn up weekly on the same day at approx the same time and hey presto my bin is put back in front of my house where I left it. So now I am getting a weekly collection and not the will they won't they service provided by the council employees, plus I don't have to play the hunt my bin game anymore even if they did bother to turn up (not often). So I get now the service I pay for, long live the strike keep it going lads is my advice. PS you need to look at the unions "fair" pay court cases which has bankrupt the city to see why the council have to take the action that has lead to the strikes.

The long answer: because people who live in a shit hole don't need to be the the ones throwing shit at places they're too scared to visit.

Also, I lived in Kent for a long time. I knew exactly what the shit hole across the water was, and made a point of driving through it as fast as possible on my way north to clearer air.

I bet the flag-shaggers in Essex are really pissed off it took some Brummies to start it.

Abhorrent behavior, and I never understand why people do this to or in their own or others environment, however it is not a trait purely of Brummies. Doesn’t help the city in anyway, i realise that, but there is a lot of good that goes on.

Birmingham is where I’m from and I love the place. The reinvention of Birmingham during my lifetime is astounding. It’s not perfect but where is?

The area around Colmore Row and the CBD is thriving with 650 companies employing around 40,000 people, then there’s the Mailbox, the Cube and Brindleyplace. Plus the amount of public parks and outdoor spaces is incredible. There’s something for everyone.

Many people have a negative perception of Brum, it’s a wonderful, vibrant and diverse place that should be celebrated.

I’m incredibly proud of my Brummie roots, it’s history and it’s culture.

Let's celebrate that all council funding for art and culture was cut because they don't even know how in debt they are.

Let's celebrate that New Street at 7:30 is like something out of The Walking Dead with all the smack heads in doorways.

Let's celebrate that a mile outside the city centre there are effectively ghettos.
