How much sleep do you get?

I used to be a solid 8 hours a night, but for the past year I've been doing fine on 4 or 5 hours a night. What's normal for you?

I'm usually in bed for 10/11 cos I feel tired but then wide awake at 3 or 4am. In the summer I can go out for a walk or do some gardening. In the winter I can get most of my days work done on my laptop before the sun has come up.

Usually around 7 hours. I work 7.30am-4pm so am usually up around 4am and ready for bed by 9pm and am lucky to be able to drift off quickly and sleep solidly till my body clock wakes me just before the alarm.

Our circadian rhythms varie for each individual at different times of life or even different days of the weeks, months or seasons. The commonly help belief that we all should have 7/8 hours sleep per night does not work for everyone.

For myself I have always slept for 4/5 hours, woken up, then returned to sleep about an hour later for another 2/3 hours. There is a interesting podcast on Radio 4 called 'The Sleep Diaries'. Which explores a lot of sleep myths with science facts. It's worth listening to.

Seems not many of us are doing the recommended 8 hrs. I know we're all different but I wonder if we've evolved to simply need less sleep.

Bed around ten, settle to sleep about an hour later. Wake at around 1.30, back to sleep untill around 4 am, sometimes fall back to sleep till around 6.

Not a good pattern really as each time I wake up from lying position I have to sleep upright until I wake again due to aches

Tends to vary throughout the year and is dependent on when it gets light. So on the winter I tend to sleep longer, during the summer I tend to sleep less. Also depends on if I need to get up in the night for the loo 😞

So can be anywhere between 4 hours and 9 hours.

5 and a half to 6. I go to bed too late and my body is so used to it now that it wont let me lie in when I get the chance to have more.

Between 5 and 6 on average. I rarely go to bed before 1am as I don't feel tired, and even then, there are evenings where I lie awake in bed still

Varies. Get good nights and bad ones. Usually have to get up at least once in the night to go to the loo. Sometimes fall asleep straight away but if that happens I then wake up about an hour or two later. Seem to spend more time in bed in the winter months as its nice and warm and saves on heating. Also if I haven't slept well I tend to feel very tired early afternoon.
