Anyone else keep clothes they'll never wear but they've got a memory attached to them so you can't throw them out?

Is it just me?

I've got a paisley shirt I bought over 40 years ago when I was rake thin, it used to be my gig shirt when I played in a band in my 20s. Never had the heart to bin it even though it hasn't fitted me for years.

I used to be like that as I would only wear expensive designer clothes and couldn't bring myself to get rid. One day I looked at the 4 double wardrobes and the space they took up, full of clothes I never wear and decided it was ridiculous. Nowadays im ruthless. I got rid of the wardrobes and sold the lot on Vinted. Rooms cluttered with furniture full of clothes never worn is not a good look.

I got rid of almost all my husband’s clothes after he died. None of that opening the wardrobe to smell him as all the clothes were clean.

I kept his favourite shirt, his wedding suit and a couple of jocks.

I keep clothes until I get bored of them as they rarely wear out. I buy well made clothes. Sometimes look at old pictures and think “ I’ve had that 5-10 years!” Then donate them.

Good quality clothes last. I have some from 20+ years ago. I have a Jaeger navy wool / cashmere coat that was my dad's, probably 35 years old. I have a pair of black Loake shoes my grandmother bought me for my graduation in the 1990s. Still look great.

I keep loads of clothes that might fit me again if I lose more weight - it encourages me to eat a sensible diet. Also a wide range of clothes gives me more choice of what to wear.

Maybe because I was a military kid I tend to have a clear out fairly regularly.

When your moving house every 2-3 years, you don't want to build up lots of crap!

I think the oldest items of clothing I have are about 15 years old; my suits and a pair of Timberland boots that will probably outlast me

I wear mainly disposable clothes. cheap jeans, cargo trousers etc. Chuck them away when they're worn out

I had a massive clear out of clothes a few years ago when I retired and was moving home. Had a few hours of trying things on and deciding that if they no longer fitted or was never likely to wear again, they had to go. Regrettably got rid of my old motorbike leathers. Rather wish I hadn't. They no longer fitted but were sentimental. Have still kept a couple of pairs of rugby boots though I will never use them again.

I've only ever had one regret at giving a garment away🤦🏽‍♂️. On the whole it can be a cathartic experience to shed your plumage every now and then
