You would think they would be rewarded rather than jailed.

Yes, a strange one!

Unfortunately there is no details of if and why the migrants wanted to leave or not. Which is poor reporting by the bbc.

The report just says it was organised by people smuggling gangs. And that two Romanian truck drivers were jailed.

Here's the same story on the Daily Mail. A bit more detailed, but still no reason for them wanting to leave.

Maybe illegals are fed up with this government too..

It's not so long ago that 39 people were found dead, suffocated in the back of a lorry driven by people sumgglers.

And now we have so much outrage about controlling our borders in the name of law and order and stopping criminal activity (obviously not racism ) and I see how little it takes these same people to actually be in favour of organised crime and people trafficking, makes me wonder if the point of their protests wasn't actually about illegality at all

Be careful making statements like this, they might lash out and label you as one of those "woke lefties" that are destoying the country (apparently)

If people are having to pay to get smuggled out of UK then lorry drivers are committing the crime and should be penalised. If people want to leave help them, not criminalise them

Farage and his ilk with their dog-whistle politics will cause this.

There will be plenty of tragedies before this is resolved.

I never for a minute thought that Years and Years would become a documentary!

Remember the good old days before Brexit with free movement of EU citizens and the Dublin convention allowing the UK to return people arriving illegally.

No dog whistle here

Straight out

Millions should be mass deported and as soon as possible

Fake Farage is not Right Wing at all

Him and his ilk are Thatcherite centrists

As are Tommy Robinson, Rupert Lowe etc etc

Ask any true Nationalist who are genuinely Right Wing.

"Why didn't they just leave?"

It might be the new EU biometrics enty and exit system. If they are illegal in the UK they are probably also illegal in the EU.

Probably because “human trafficking” is a crime - whatever direction they are being transported. Also if they are taking people out, how do you know that they wouldn’t be bringing others back with them on another trip?

Was it the Miggins’s from middle England trying to buy their way out?

Yes those halcyon days when an immigration solicitor could make an honest crust making sure that their client never actually left this country under the Dublin convention or any other all on the taxpayers dim .

After all they had a right to family life according to the ECtHR and our own courts right ?

Even if that family consisted of a cat called tiddles that didn’t like foreign cat food.
