Seems as if users of another well known app have been targeted by some nasty people. Several t have taken their own lives as the police didn’t do what they should have done.

That's tragic, some reasons I like this site - verifications and you can also see how long someone has been on the site, not failsafe but it does help working out who is genuine

Well this site isn’t immune, there was this article on the bbc back in 2016 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-35612994.amp

Stephen Port case all over again.

Police ignoring crime related to gay men.

Then when they are revealed as ignoring

Roll out the old “ building links with the community” crap.

What’s the bet every officer linked with this failure will be promoted.

Like in the Stephen Port case.

What don’t you understand, how they work? A lot are just mini web browsers tbh displaying a cut down user interface to fit on a phone/tablet.

I'll confess to being a bit of a duffer where computing is concerned. Completely self taught on what little I know. Do not possess a smart phone as don't really need one. Recently tried to make an insurance claim but needed an App so gave up. Just renewed my AA membership and got told to download the App!

Which is more “ignorant” not to even bother reading the article where the app is quite clearly named and expect someone else to tell them what it says, or to criticise someone telling them to go and read the article for themselves?

It is a bit like expecting someone else to come along and wipe your bum for you because you can’t be bothered to do it for yourself.

There was a story 2 years ago about a policeman on Fabguys pretending to be a 14 year old boy and messaging a 53 year old man. The man got 9 months.

If that is the one on the Teesside Live site, he was a 74 year old Married man, claimed to be 69 on his profile. He was arrested when he went to meet what he thought was a 14 year old and had liquid viagra and condoms with him. He has also sent explicit pictures to the supposed 14 year old.

The fact that he sent explicit pictures and went to meet what he thought was a 14 year old boy for sex is his own fault. If he had reported the profile claiming to be a 14 year old instead of engaging the way he did, I suspect he would be a free man.

Interesting that the article doesn’t say if the policeman who created the profiles actions were sanctioned by the police as it could be viewed as entrapment.

Ah OK, all good , but in all seriousness to your previous reply yes he could of reported the account , ive blocked some people on here because thier "interests" in chats are questionable even on forum posts they are close to the wire , but would it be classed as entrapment I'm not sure in my opinion he deserved to get caught.

Have a good day

No this one happened in Wales.

It's possible there's quite a few "undercover" police officers on this site

Entrapment can be a bit of a grey area legally (as I understand it). Going back years to cottaging, there were incidents of plain clothes police going into toilets and flashing it about then arresting anyone who showed interest. Something they wouldn’t have done but for the actions of the plain clothes officer. That was entrapment where they were inciting people to commit an offence.

In the case I looked up and referenced, personally I would agree that it probably wasn’t entrapment, but there can be a very fine line. Also, it depends if his actions were sanctioned by senior officers before engaging.

I've an issue with that , I mean a grown man approaching a grown man at a urinal and inciting sex then that's entrapment , but I've no issue with them trying to catch predators.

I don’t have an issue with the police catching predators, my issue is if it is done in a legal way. If it was an “operation” that was “sanctioned” before it was started, and operated within a set of rules that had been checked to be legal, then fair enough. But as has all too often happened that has not always been the case leading to miscarriages of justice.

While we can’t and probably never will know the relevant details, there have been far too many issues with the way some things have been done in the past that make you have to question certain actions.
