I like both. Hard is more common in the UK, but the French seem to go for soft a little more, and I do like a ripe Camembert or Brie.

That said, Comté is a hard French cheese with a wonderful taste.

Soft is good for starting, but hard last longer and burns brighter. I usually order a mixture of soft and hard woods for my log burner.

Sounds great, you could measure 1cm cubes of bland cheddar, skewer them with pineapple chunks or a small pickled onion and then then spike them into a foil covered half melon, like a hedgehog.
