Nervous for going to a place that sells alcohol and is frequented by people that are gay? Come on.

Most of the time gay bars are filled with straight groups out for a drink.

That’s right - the “woke” think it’s “cool” to be seen at a gay bar.

Why are you using 'woke' as something derogatory?

It's not to be 'cool', but more the vibe is better and less confrontational

In addition, it's also a place where anyone who's anyone can carry on drinking into the early hours as well.

My first time in a gay bar was in Liverpool, I went in late afternoon when it was quiet and the staff had time to chat, so less of a challenge and more of a confidence booster for future visits.

I have no idea what the “rules” would really be in these places other than those that generally apply in any bars? Ha.

For what I remember, my first visit to a gay bar was to The Yard in Newcastle a few years back. It was with a bisexual female friend though, so that made it easier.

I wish I had more free time to get round to more of the others on/near Scotswood Road (although I at least visited Rusty’s Showbar recently)

What's the difference between a gay and str8 bar.

Do you honestly think your the only gay in your local pub. Ok most of the men are married but they still play with cock. I know there's at least six gay/bi men in my local. 4 tops n 2 bottoms. All still in the closet. Two of them are on fab just cock pics on profiles.

Sit in bar. Open fabguys. See who’s near

Maybe put that you’re in the bar on your status.

Or open other location based apps. It seems to be how cruising is done these days. No one actually chats.

Decorated a few gay bars and clubs over the years. My local one, Martha's, closed a while ago now. I felt lined, a trophy cabinet, thinking it was for pool trophies etc. Went back to snag the bar a couple of weeks later, and found it to be full of aromas, condoms, and copies of the Pink Paper. Lol. X

My first was Brief Encounter in St Martin's Lane London many, many years ago. Nervous beyond belief but discovered it was really just like any other bar and, of course, why wouldn't it be? It was full of suited men having a drink after work (probably before heading home to their wives).

"When would be time to go and visit "

Just go whenever you want, obviously evenings and the weekends will be busier. It's just a pub that will have gay men in it, whether they're looking to pick up is less predictable.

You've got plenty of verifications, so it's not as if you're shy or haven't got experience.

The worst that can happen is you get a bad hangover.

my first was in 1976. I went on a course to Brighton.I was terrified but soooooo horny I went in and ordered a pint and a large whisky, necked the whisky. nearly died as it was far harsher than I was used to . I had denims and a white t shirt on, I saw two men kissing I was amazed I had never thought of that . Ten minutes later I was sat in a booth with a guy kissing me and rubbing my very hard cock . By the end of the week I had been fucked, suckedl licked and covered in cum,it was wonderful i

"Not been yet very nervous not certain what to do would like to be meet or get pick up inside "

Well you seem to have quite a few verifications, perhaps you could check with them if they go to any gay pubs. If they do ask if you could go with them for your first visit, that way there will be someone there that you know, and they can introduce you to people they know there. That way you won’t be a “wall flower” if you are shy, and it will be an easier first visit for you. That would be my suggestion.

I was made to feel unwelcome by one guy as I "wasn't gay enough". He got kicked out for his comment. Was definitely a weird night lol

Yes, we defend our territory savagely. If you’re not wearing a crop-top and deely-boppers and quoting cutting remarks from Joe Orton, you’ll be swiftly marched out.

A good time would be when they’re closed. Take a video of you banging on the door demanding entry at 7am and upload it to social media for shits and giggles.

It's a pub where the customers are usually gay. A safe space where we can be ourselves. Where we meet and make friends. Where we might get lucky and end up in bed with someone at the end of the evening. Like any straight pub but with better clothes and music. Stand at the bar, is more of an open space. If you sit on your own in a corner people will tend to leave you alone

Sadly seems to be the case now. Used to love going to them. Sometimes took a short break in a town that had a gay scene, toured the bars, enjoyed to atmosphere and rarely ever went to bed alone. Then straights started using them because they were either considered safe places or they wanted some 'entertainment'. Got chatted up by a guy who after several drinks admitted he was straight and only chatted to me for fun. What a waste of time!

Read my earlier suggestion, see if someone you already know goes to any of the gay pubs, and ask if you can go with them the first time so there is someone you know, and can introduce you to other people.

"Other than sittin on my own is their any other to say im looking"

You could wear a big pointy hat saying “I’m Looking!”…

I’m sorry if my suggestions might seem a little brusque. This is because you are clearly not lacking in wherewithal. It takes a certain amount of gumption to post sexual photos of yourself in women’s attire. This indicates you have a level of gumption. You have successfully met a number of people on the site and have received multiple verifications. This displays the necessary confidence, organisational and personal skills to navigate meeting strangers off the internet. A number of excellent suggestions have been made above by other users about going to a gay pub if this is a new experience and outside your normal comfort zone. But you seem to determined to ignore these.

This has now become one of those PLEASE TALK ALL ABOUT ME threads. Just put your gladrags on and get off to a bar.

Anyone remember the hotel in the middle of Preston Lancs owned by Bass Charington that had a gay bar back in the 1970s. I can’t remember the name now, but that was my first job as a barman. The atmosphere was always vibrant and the clientele polite, kind and considerate

It can be easy or sometimes nerve wracking. Some places are cliquey and often full of guys in groups that don't want to engage with guys outside the group. You can end up talking to nobody or being given the brush off. You can feel very alone in a crowd at times.

On another night it can totally different and very enjoyable once you start chatting.

It's just a bar but you can kiss a man or pull your dick out and nobody gives a damn (context depending). I went on Sunday to my local bar. It's men only so you don't have to bounce that question in your head if you're barking up the wrong tree when you talk to someone. I go for the "Sunday social". Sunshine , free sausages in a bun. Talk to lots of guys, makes some friends , have a play in the bathroom or take someone home.

Just go to a gay bar FFS. You only live once. For the most part it's a regular bar, so prepare to be disappointed lol. It's gets really " gay" when they host events like nude nights, leather nights, kink nights, Halloween etc .

What sort of advice is this to give someone who’s never been to a gay bar and looking for some reassurance?! Based on what…? Only your personal experiences, I presume. I’ve never found a gay pub or bar like that. But then I don’t have a victim mentality. As you yourself say - you haven’t found it like that on other occasions. And the thread is full of people describing the good times they’ve had in gay establishments.

This is the most salient advice offered in the thread. Gay bars are mostly desperately unexciting and normal and you’ll wonder what the fuss was about.
