It provides an extra level of safety.

Condoms can break or come off during sex so they don’t provide 100% protection.

Nah i understand OP ..as its good to take prep but that means your exposing your cock to many other viruses other than hiv.

Prep and condom these days as the rate of infections is rising for many sti's ..we seem to forgotten the 80'90's

There's no such thing as "safe sex", any sexual encounter has a risk. "Safer sex" when practiced reduces the transmission of STIs - which before the advent of PrEP was wearing a condom.

Arguably PrEP is just another facet of "safer sex", but maybe a new term is needed for those that require a condom- "condom sex", "barrier sex" - who knows?
