Obviously at this time of year, people are going to remember the effortless, chill and sincere Driving Home For Christmas (one of the few perennial seasonal hits I can stand to listen to) but he was an appealingly no-bullshit, no-ego musician and writer with a surprisingly large catalogue of really rather good songs.

Hate Xmas songs

But he was a stunning blues singer/guitarist

And he fell asleep on Shooting Stars

RIP Sir

North East

The Road to Hell is one of favourite ever songs I can listen to it on repeat numerous times and never get bored.

He had one the most recognisable deep husky voices in Music

Another famous Singer from the North East of England who will forever be remembered fondly

RIP Chris your Music will forever live on 🙏

I've always found it impossible to hate Driving Home though. It's so universal an everyman theme. I've worked retail until lunchtime Christmas Eve, heard it on the radio literally driving home to my family in the pouring rain in traffic and thought yep, he knows what I'm feeling and put it into simple words.

'Auberge' and 'on the beach' are my favourite hits. 'Tell me there's a heaven' is slushy but I love that too.

RIP Chris.

Forget Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran. Chris was a proper musician and genuinely worthy of remembering.
