My advice would be to buy generic medicines rather than the branded ones you mention, and to make sure you keep a good stock. Amazon and eBay are good places to buy.

Wrong time of year I know but forgo the alcohol except when having a hot toddy,

Keep yourself hydrated and as mentioned over the counter medication, generic not costly branded.

It's not a cold, or a sniffle. Just asking if people had some good advice or things they've tried before. Just move along next time

Rest. And high dose vitamin C is thought to help. But you have to just let it run its course. Sleep when you need to. Do everything else you’re doing.

I don't believe the over the counter meds do much good apart from paracetamol. The natural approach can aid in recovery, essential oils such as eucalyptus in a bowl of hot water head over it with a towel over the head, breath it in thru the nose and then thru the mouth. Old fashioned but it helps, Few drops at a time as too much will blow your head off lol. It works to clear the chest and airways. Rub some lavender oil with some sort of cream into the chest and feet before bed, not only will it give you a good night sleep but will aid your recovery.

Prevention is better, vitamin d highest dose you can find plus zinc. Need to know more message me direct. I haven't had a sniffle the last couple of years and I've been on airplanes etc. Cheers hope this helps

Thanks! I have a steam inhalator and olbas oil. I know I'll pretty much need to let it run it's course, just trying to alleviate the symptoms

Perfect that will help, also put some on your chest before bed, use some moisturiser to mix it in then apply to your chest and soles of your feet, cover with socks!

This definitely helps with breathing, but be careful that you don't use too much. I read recently that eating plenty of eggs helps (never seen/heard this before, but I do like eggs!), rather than vitamin C, etc. Paracetamol + lots of water (again, not TOO much) definitely helps reduce a fever. Get well soon 🤒🤧🤞

Goodness! A barfly, good friend of mine at my local watering hole, always says 'we come here to learn!' (Usually when already on his second bottle of red!) But that's how I feel with this thread! I'm taking not of all the folk wisdom offered here! In the old homeland grandmothers used to say give it nine days before you do anything for a cold, which in any case would simply be palliative management of the symptoms. Hope op feels better soon🤧

Upper respiratory infection can be caused either by a bacteria or virus.

If it is bacterial infection, you would need an antibiotic called amoxicillin provided if you are not allergic to penicillin.

If it is a viral infection, an antibiotic will not cure it.

Therefore, the best action plan is to see your GP for a physical examination eg. listening to your lungs examining your throat etc and asking you some questions about your symptoms, it's duration, the colour of your sputum etc to make the right diagnosis.

From your description, I think it us likely you have a viral infection, or a viral infection which have transformed into a secondary bacterial infection.

Anyway, take care. Hoping you get better.

Dealing with flu :

1. Enough rest and sleep

2. Keep warm

3. Drink plenty of water if not contraindicated to keep hydrated, if you don't have heart failure or kidney dysfunction.

4. Take paracetamol to lower your temperature and treat aches and pains if not contraindicated. Follow the safety instruction enclosed. Or speak to a pharmacist or GP if you're not sure.

IMPORTANT

If you are not feeling any better or symptoms worsen, you must see your GP or a doctor. Take care.

I got the flu jag, take ginger, honey and lemon in a drink every morning, take Vit B12, D3 and tumeric and still caught the flu like symptoms which I’m struggling to shake off still after ten days!

In other words if your going to get it you’ll get it.

It depends very much on your immune system, biochemistry, DNA and health status.

Flu vaccination does help but this year there was a new unforeseen flu variant which was "missed out" from the vaccine. Vaccine only covered the viruses which the researchers discovered as prevalent for this year and it is still protective to a certain degree.

D*unk plenty of fluids and let it run it's course with a little help from paracetamol, make sure you don't have too much if you take lemsip too.

It's best to have the flu jab every year, I do and haven't had the flu for over 30 years

1. Drink lots of water (but no alcohol) to keep the effects of dehydration at bay.

2. Get plenty of rest so that your body has the full energy resources it needs in your immune system to go into battle and defeat the virus.

3. Treat any aches and pains with paracetamol.

4. For a sore throat, gargle with salt water which acts as an antiseptic.

5. Honey and lemon juice in hot water will help clear congestion in the throat.

No mun. If you slowly turn your head, in bed, and can see it from your window, as you get up for a piss. slowly twisting and turning down the opposite side of the road in the breeze. Tantalising and teasing you.

Chase me.. chase me...

You think .. some scumbag is going to grab that. I must get it.

Sod it.. I have to go back to bed.

That kinda thing. You wouldn't be in the street though, no, you're right on that score.

I hope this clarification is sufficient.

What works for me is two paracetamol and a irish hot whiskey (irish whiskey, lemon slice with cloves pricked into the lemon, honey or brown sugar and hot water) in a cup and take before bed and next morning I'm back to normal

I've had the beginning of a cold on Christmas eve and took the two paracetamol and hot whiskey and Christmas morning I was fine again

Hopefully this works for you but everyone is different that's why different medicines are available

Hot toddy. Whisky rather than whiskey for the family down the generations.

If it is genuine flu and not 'man flu' or a bad cold, you just have to let it work its way out. You'll probably need to stay in bed as you will find walking difficult. Stay warm, stay hydrated and keep a phone close by, if you live alone, in order to call for help if symptoms get too bad.

Usually ok with the jab , had it this year too.

I know it doesn’t stop the flu but I’m a little surprised that even with the strains mutating they missed the boat on getting close to the right mix this season

As an aromatherapist I tend to use Ravensara essential oil at the first signs; in the bath, inhalation and massage. It can often halt it in it's tracks. You would need to read up on dosages though and methods of use. Essential oils are quite potent and need to be used correctly. Hope you feel better soon

I use a neti pot and the equal mix of bicarbonate and salt.

Warm water and half a teaspoon of the mix.

Head tilted sideways and pour into each nostril. Within seconds all the mucus gunge comes pouring out.

You can check it out on google
