Reading profiles before responding to posts

If I'm responding to someone's post I always check their profile first before posting anything in return.

I wish others would do the same.

I've already deleted around 10 responses because others keep asking if I have teleguard ( whatever it is) Kik, What's etc.

I don't use them because I refuse to have them

A few do- and its appreciated, and saves a LOT of time, but most don't unfortunately. At least I can filter out the timewasters etc. Each to their own I guess

It clearly says on my profile in capitals that I can never accommodate yet constantly get people ask to meet at mine.

Had quite a few ask for my personal email as well - as if I would.

If someone messages me and they obviously have not read my profile I will either ignore, block or my favourite thing to do if I have some time on my hands is to waste their time for hours 😂

I always read the profile as it gives a clue about whether or not we would be compatible and therefore avoids me wasting my time and his. I still get quite a few monosyllabic messages from people completely incompatible and hundreds or miles away though.

I don’t bother looking if I’m responding to a post, but I normally do if I’m responding to a message from them

It would save the sender time and my time, if they read my profile.

Why people do not read is beyond me, particularly the ones who are miles away.

Increasingly I find my replies to messages are ‘Have you read my profile?’

Yes people who ask if I’m into cam / chat annoy me because my profile clearly states that I’m not!

I always check a persons profile if it may contain something relevant to way I word my reply, but for general threads that are not Fab or sex related there's no point.

To be fair, many profiles are pretty minimal and the tickbox list is only half the story.

My profile is reasonably full. Lots of folk say they like it e g 100 looked yesterday ... It probably took less than 5 min. to read at the most and then a salient chat would take about 10 minutes. Then travel time - less than one hour if u live within 30 miles and have car. We should be in bed by now.

Apparently 25% of adults in the UK are functionally illiterate. So maybe that’s part of the problem. I agree that it is supremely annoying when guys ask a question that is answered in my profile.. x

Think there is a difference between a post (which would be something posted here) and a message which is to a profile. A post here you are responding to a comment already put up by the profile not looking to ask them for a meet. A message to a profile, then of course it is important to read the profile of the person you are about to message first.

My profile is long and detailed I know but at least I am trying to be clear about my likes and dislikes.

I can then cheerfully ignore the silly questions about stuff which the answers are already there.

This is the bit I didn’t understand from the OP’s header. “Posts”… Are you talking about posts in the Forum here, OP..?

I don’t need to read someone’s profile to respond to a public comment of theirs here in the Forum. That’s a very strange idea to me.

If their post invites comment on their profile, that’s another matter.

If I message someone on here, of course I’ve read their profile. It would be bizarre not to. But then I’m not a bozo. And I don’t waste time doing bozo things.

You would assume someone messaging you would be doing the same… but you learn that there are in fact a great many bozos on here so never assume anything.

I'm the OP

So if I post something on the forum be it a story or a general question/ experience, or if I comment on someone else's, I often receive direct messages asking if I want to chat on various platforms or if I would like to meet immediately.

This then demonstrates that the responder has not read my profile in the first place. This to me show's that people have no regard for the time other members take in providing information about likes, dislikes etc.

Sometimes it's cool just to send messages of appreciation even if neither of you are each other's type, with no expectation of hookups. We're all human after all and it's nice to be seen.

I need to do more of that in 2026.

I quite often ask "which part of my profile attracts you the most?"

That usually ends the pointless conversation
