DERBY

I know this will only hit with Gen Xrs & Millennial but... I haven't watched music TV since Scuzz departed for Infernal Chorus seven years ago... but MTV shutting down finally brought up some mixed feelings for me. Virtually all the music I listen to on YouTube is stuff I discovered on MTV2/Alt. Nation or HBB. It still feels less bland & conformist than most modern plastic pop ( with exceptions). It also feels more noticeably authentic & working class ( Heavy Metal, Goth & NWBHM though to Nu Metal are explicitly political, subversive, transgressive & working class, which is why journalists hate them: they prove we think for ourselves & aren't a fungible group) than the dreck you still get churned out as "popular".

Around 2000 I was going severe depression which has stayed with me ever since. MTV2 got me some way out of that: it also had a major influence on my taste in men.

Yes, it's always been a corporatism machine, but it's at least been a vehicle for synthesis, unlike the social media shouting factory that's followed.

Not watched MTV for years, stopped when I felt it was just showing what the music corps wanted them to play. And yes a big noticeable decline in rock and alt music

Work/Play in London, live in Kent

I like many of us have not watched in years. When I recently saw a listing of the to 10 artists who had made most money from their work being included on TV across all TV channels,it really his home a little of a music station it was. The only name on the list I recognised was the lead singer of the Barenaked Ladies and that was because of a theme tune he written. Apparently the musical artist whom MTV in particularhave paid most money to, other composers of the theme tune of its reality TV shows.

Ahhh MTV introduced me to my favourite band. And then I heard a lot of other bands for the first time through MTV2. Those were the days

MTV dance was brilliant 2000-05, the main MTV was unwatchable by that point esp when they dropped music
